Earls Meats Recalls Turkey Lunch Meat Due to Potential Listeria Monocytogenes Contamination

Holland -- Earls Meats, LLC, located at A 5685 143rd Ave, in Holland, Michigan, is recalling its Turkey Lunch Meat because a sample has tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths. The very young, the pregnant, the elderly, and persons with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to infection. People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.

The recalled turkey lunch meat was sold from the retail cooler at Earls Meats, in Holland, Michigan, and is marked with a sell by date of 2/14/15.

Illnesses have not been reported to date in connection with this problem. The contamination was noted after testing by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in a sample of the product.

Production of the product has been suspended while Earls Meats and MDARD continue their investigation as to the source of the problem.

Consumers who have purchased turkey lunch meat are urged to return it to the retail store for a full refund.

Consumers with questions may contact Earl Bosch at 616- 392-6392.
