I ended up with hundreds of pictures of East Nashville at the end

from all my photo shoots and footage. I needed a way to approach the

project and this huge amount of photos that was easy for me to under-

stand and wrap my head around. So I decided to split the pictures up

into categories so that they would be more organized. The categories

I immediately came up with when looking through the pictures were

color categories– the signs along the street and buildings are all bright

colors, which split easily up into red, blue, yellow and white catego-

ries. I cropped the photos down for this section of the book so that they

would function as textures and be more abstract than some of the other

chapters. In this chapter we look back at Gallatin Road and see all the

uniqueness and beauty that is present there in the details.

eastside,i love youalways.

So this is my look at East Nashville through the study of Gallatin Road. I hope

you have enjoyed this look at the street which is the heart of East Nashville and

connects the hip trendy side with the more urban grit of old East Nashville. I

want to thank every place I went into, whether they spoke to me or not, they

are the reason this project is so full of life and vitality, and they are the ones

who make East Nashville so unique and interesting. I do want to see this street

change. I want the crime to stop and the fear to become a thing of the past. But

I believe that the history and uniqueness should be preserved and I understand

that this is what makes it so special. I have wanted to do this for a long time,

because this area speaks to me and my childhood. I have loved every moment

of this experience because I love this place. It is my home and where I know I

have a place in this world.
