Background

• Growing energy demand

• Limited reserves of fossil fuels

• Environmental concerns

---CO2 emissions, pollution, etc.

Growing energy demand

Limited reserves of fossil fuels

Environmental concerns

Now !!!We are in Energy Crisis.

What can we do?

Solution

• Reduce energy use

• Develop new energy

How to reduce energy use?

Reduce residential energy use

• Use the electricity-saving device

• Form awareness of saving energy

• ……

Use the electricity-saving device

Form awareness of saving energy

Reduce transportation energy use

• Use the hydro vehicle

• Use public transportation

• ……

Use public transportation

Reduce industrial energy use

• High efficient production

• Improve the equipment

• ……

What can be developed into new

energy?

The new energy

• Renewable energy

• Nonrenewable energy

---Natural gas, etc.

We should choose renewable energy if possible.

Why renewable energy?

Renewable VS Nonrenewable

• Renewable

• ---unlimited, sustainable, clean

• Nonrenewable

• ---limited, expensive

Renewable resources• Wind

• Solar

• Hydro

• Waves

• Biomass

Future Steps/Objectivesby Mohsen Nazemi, P.E.

Assistant Deputy Executive Officer

• Accelerate Replacement & Control of Existing Dirty Units

• Support/Promote Use of Clean New Generation Technologies for New Power Plants and Distributed Generation

• Support/Promote Environmental Dispatch (Use Cleanest Units first and Dirtiest Units last and only to Avoid Emergencies)

• Address Power Plant Emissions Impacts on RECLAIM and RTC Prices

• Minimize Use of Existing Diesel-fired Emergency Back-Up

• Implement Executive Orders

• Support/Promote Conservation Efforts

Conclusion

Facing energy crisis, reducing energy use and developing new energy are efficient ways.

Beat it!!!
