1.Observation

It’s all been done.

• It’s never been easier to be a student.

• It’s never been easier to find presentations, good and bad.

• It’s never been easier to find tools.– TED, Lectures @Google, Slideshare

2. Development

It’s the product of work, and it shows.

• Mission• Audience• Purpose• Message(s)• Outline• Perceptions

Mission Statement

• To provide a simple framework for the development and delivery of outstanding presentations and speeches. This presentation will educate individuals on the art of presentation, inspire them to know that they too can master this skill and entertain them to leave an indelible imprint on their memory.

Purpose

• To teach a concrete methodology for presentation development from concept to execution.

• To teach specific techniques and the effective use of design to capture the attention of audiences.

Messages

• Preparation, Practice and Perseverance.• Process before art. • Anyone can do this.

3. Structure

It’s structured for polish.

• Guy Kawasaki’s 7 idea model, visualized using high resolution imagery of the President.

• Grouping by category.– Sections of this presentation have been pre-

written and pre-rehearsed.• Includes targeted video segments to facilitate

smooth transitions and provide variety.

It’s structured to be heard.

• What stories will be effective?– My first speech.– Superficial connection with the President’s story.

• What video will be effective?– Any Given Sunday– The President himself.

4. Design

It looks this way by design.

• Presentation Zen Model: – Less is more: Whitespace and simplicity.– It’s all been said. Effective use of quotation. – High resolution images. – Patriotic color scheme. – Memorable font: Gill Sans MT

It could also include data.

5. Preparation

Preparation, Practice and Perseverance.

• Preparation is the antidote for anxiety.• Practice comes in many forms. • Rehearsal and tools. • 1000 hours to mastery.

6. Delivery

It’s game time.

• Get in the right mindset.• Clear the mechanism. • Posture: Relaxed; upright, but not stiff. • Breathing: controlled, though heart rate

elevated.• Gestures: practiced and natural.

7. Profit!

It’s been a pleasure.

• I have tools for you.• I have recommendations for you.• I’d love to hear your questions for us all.
