Jaclyn BurmanChicago, IL Jaclyn Burman, 64, successfully enrolled in health insurance through the marketplace. Burman is widowed and has two grown children. She cannot work due to injuries sustained in a car accident two years ago and doesn’t have health insurance, but the settlement from the accident along with financial assistance helps pay for her medical bills. She tried to enroll on October 1 and was unable to get through the federal website. Recently Burman attended the Center for Economic Progress’s Cover Your Community event and was able to successfully enroll with the help of a navigator. She was surprised that the process took close to three hours, but said the navigator was patient and helpful. It was very important to her to find a plan that allowed her to keep her current doctor, surgeon and orthopedic doctor. She is pleased with her insurance plan and pleasantly surprised that she qualified for subsidies.
