1925: Jan Kriel, at age 16, died from epilepsy

1944: From caring to educating: a formal school was begun

1985: The school also included learners with other special education needs

From a modest beginning. . .

The Association of Friends of the Epileptic child was started in 1949, in order to raise funds and create awareness

And with these funds big building projects were taken on and completed between 1950 - 1985

…to bigger dreams…

At Jan Kriel School we strive to empower learners with epilepsy and special

education needs

Special education is about 4 times more expensive than mainstream

education. Jan Kriel School is only partially subsidized. Friends’ financial support ensures the

future of necessary support for our children and their unique needs.

Please become a benefactor and help us to give a child a chance!
