KNHS School Report Card 2015-2016
One Goal, One Team, One KNHS… Working together beyond academic excellence!
Message It is with great pleasure that we present to you the School Report Card of Kalayaan National High School for School Year 2015-2016.
As we begin the school year 2016-2017 with high hopes and aspirations, it is our belief that our school should provide “The Experience of a Lifetime.” In many cases the high school experience sets the stage for successes later in life and offers a lifetime of positive memories for our students.
Education is highly valued by our community and as the only public high school institution in the community; we have high expectations for our students. Our school motto “learning for life” inspires us to equip students with the skills to learn and to adapt in an ever-changing world, at the same time being “lifelong learners”.
Our dedicated and conscientious teaching force has student learning and wel-fare as their main goal. A mixture of experienced and early career teachers provide pur-poseful and engaging learning activities which cater for all types of students.
It is the goal of our teachers and staff to continue to develop innovative and creative ways to improve students’ overall success. Through continuing education and professional development, we strive to find and implement enlivening new strategies to expand our students’ horizons. We believe that all students can learn and it is our goal to provide them with a positive learning environment.
Stakeholders like the parents, local government unit, barangay community and all our partners in education take a very active and positive role in helping us educate our students. They are known for their dedication and countless volunteer hours. We greatly appreciate involvement to our school. These stakeholders are all key compo-nents to our successful learning community.
KNHS has provided an exceptional education to many wonderful boys and girls over the thirteen years of its existence. This high school is a fine example of the quality education that DepED, Schools Division of Pasay City would always want to deliver. As the school principal, I look forward to continuing the long-standing tradition of excellence of this institution that has been established over the years.
EMILIA L. TOLENTINO Principal IV
One Goal, One Team, One KNHS… Working together beyond academic excellence.
Introduction
Kalayaan National High School is located between the boundaries of Pasay City and Parañaque City. The school is surrounded by residential houses occu-pied by informal settlers and automotive machine shops. There are housing units in the nearby areas occupied by teachers and policemen. Other vacant areas served as parking area for cargo trucks owned by private companies.
At present, Kalayaan National High School stands in a U – shaped high
rise three buildings. Building A is a four storey building with eight classrooms, Building B has four floors which are occupied by the Administration Building, the Faculty Rooms, the School Library, the Audio Visual Room, the Science Labora-tory Room, the Records Room, the Guidance Office, the Office of the Principal, the Electrical Room, the Stock Room and the School Gymnasium. Building C is a five-storey building comprising of ten classrooms. Another building is the two makeshift buildings constructed on the side of Building C where the School Can-teen and the YECS Room are located. The other building houses the Feeding Room as well as the Industrial Rooms which include the Drafting Room, the Electrical Room, and the Automotive Room.
KNHS unceasingly strengthened synergy involving internal and external
stakeholders. This served as an extended effort to reach the full potential of KNHians through untiring student services. The aftermath of this was best seen and felt as students excel both in academics and extra-curricular competitions held outside the school.
Moreover, KNHS is consistently involved in learning and implementing the
latest programs and projects of the department in order to provide students with the finest education possible. Parent and community partnerships are a priority. Parent involvement is high and there are many opportunities to volunteer and become an integral part of our educational family.
KNHS supports the learning needs of all students. We have highly qualified
dedicated and committed professional educators who focus on the needs of eve-ry student. We believe that every child deserves the best educational experience that exists.
KNHS School Report Card 2015-2016
One Goal, One Team, One KNHS… Working together beyond academic excellence.
Alternative delivery mode (ADM) of education has also paved way as KNHS offers the Open High School Program (OHSP) which is meant to cater the needs of grades 7-10 students who cannot attend mainstream/regular class due to una-voidable life-circumstances. Classes are being held every Saturday from 7am to 2:30pm.
Kalayaan National High School, in its 13th year of existence, is yet to step on
another milestone as it embraces the challenge of implementing the SHS pro-gram. Support to it has been manifested by the academe early this year. Since then, teachers, administrators and staff, with the partnership and cooperation of its respective community and stakeholders, work hand-in-hand to intensify not only the preparation of the SHS, but also ,the delivery of basic yet effective and efficient services to students.
Moving Ahead With the full implementation of SHS this coming school year, KNHS is about
to play an imperative role in opening more avenues for students to succeed. This is another milestone leading to meaningful endeavours crucial to nation
building.

I. ENROLMENT
Figure 1 shows the enrolment data of KNHS for the last three
school years.
Statistics reveals that the school has an average decrease of
4%, with the previous SY (2015-2016) having the most number of
decrease in enrolment with 8.7% or 251 students.
The decline in the enrolment can be attributed to students
who have decided to transfer to nearby and newly-opened high
schools in the Division of Paranaque. Another reason is the reloca-
tion of most families who live within the catchment areas of the
school to Naic, Cavite, as part of the priority project on housing pro-
gram of the Pasay City Government.

1.2 Open High School Program (OHSP) Enrolment
Figure 2, shows the enrolment of OHSP for the past two
school years, where KNHS has successfully implemented the
unique program of the division. It is noted that there is an increase
of 23% in enrolment from SY 2014-2015 to SY 2015-2016.
The increase may be credited to the effort of the school to
help students continue their studies despite the different life situa-
tions these learners are experiencing.

1.3. ALTERNATIVE LEARNING SYSTEM ENROLMENT
The table shows the three school year enrolment of Alterna-tive Learning System (ALS) students from SY 2013-2014 to SY 2015-2016.
Statistics indicates an average increase of 14.2% in enrol-ment, with the previous SY demonstrating the highest percentage of increase (37%).
Figures also revealed that it was only in the school year 2015-2016 where enrolment for ALS has been fully implemented in all quarters.

2. HEALTH and NUTRITIONAL STATUS
It can be gleaned from the figure that most of the students from grades 7-10 are within the range of normal in health status.
More male students fall under wasted and severely wasted with 39% difference from the female students. Only 2.28% from total enrolment fall under the overweight. Generally, figures show that most of the students are in good health and this can be manifested from their active participa-tion with the school’s different programs and activities.

School data on Learners Materials generally illustrates the list of LMs which each subject area by grade level have adequate copies and those that are still lacking.
Table shows that only Grade 9 has the complete LMs for K+12 Curricu-lum. It is followed by Grade 10 where in it only lacks LMs in TLE/HE.
For Grade 7, there are enough LMs for the first year students except in Edukasyong Pagkakatao, PE & Health, and TLE/HE where the school has yet to receive delivery from the concerned agency.
For Grade 8, English, AP and TLE/HE has no K+12 LMs yet. All other subject areas have enough copies for the students.
The insufficient LMs recorded above did not hinder our enthused teach-ers to teach effectively and efficiently for they have shown resourcefulness in teaching our students. Most teachers used other reference materials they found in the bookstore or those that are being utilized in the private schools, and others downloaded practice exercises from the web.

4. TEACHER’S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Professional Development Attended by Teachers
Table shows the professional development KNHS teachers
have attended for School year 2015-2016.
It is evident that most of the categories of teacher’s profes-
sional development were attended by the teachers.
However, figures confirm that there is a need to provide
teachers with trainings in Instructional Supervision, because it mani-
fested the lowest percentage of development among teachers with
only 18.35% from the 109 teaching force.
Teachers attending seminars in co-curricular activities like
BSP, GSP, Red Cross, etc should also be enhanced since only
27.52% were given trainings.

5. FUNDING SOURCES
Sources of School Funds, SY 2015-2016
The school budget is one of the most powerful tools to promote and strengthen school based management and accountability.
Table 5 shows the sources of fund of KNHS for school year 2015-2016. It is evident that the school Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) which is the allocated funds for all public secondary schools that can be spent on activities and necessities that support learning programs and help maintain a safe and healthy envi-ronment in schools, occupies the highest share of funding resource of the school with 68.17% of the total school fund.
Since KNHS is not yet an implementing unit, its MOOE is being derived from the division MOOE.
Fund resources from the school canteen, both school operated and cooperative managed have almost the same amount of revenue for the whole school year with 17.89% share.
Among the donations that the school has received, Chevron Phils., Inc under its Caltex Fuel Your School Campaign has donated 40 Volt-ohm-milliammeter units, 18 clamp ammeter units amounting to Php 345,000.00 which is about 10.70% portion of the total funding resource of the school.
Above all, transparency, accountability and financial stewardship are the guiding principles of KNHS to ensure that the funding resources it has been given are used for the purpose intended especially the needs of the learners and teachers.

SCHOOL AWARDS and RECOGNITION
The awards and recognition that the school has received is a
proof of the collaborative efforts of the teachers and administrators to pro-
vide students with opportunities to hone their talents and capabilities both
in academics, sports and co-curricular activities.
KNHS is a consistent awardee as Division Best Implementer in
Summer Reading Camp, Brigada Eskwela, National Eco-Savers Pro-
gram. The school is also faring well in the regional competitions both in
sports and academics.
It is for these reasons that the school will continue its commitment
to excel in all aspects of learning and bring out the best among its stu-
dents and teachers.

7. 1 NUMBER of DROP-OUT by CAUSE
Table shows that most of the reason why students dropped
out from their classes is due to change of residence with 53.85 % or
14 out of 26 total dropped out students. It is followed by financial
problem and poor health with 15.38%. It is also noted that one stu-
dent died due to chronic illness during the SY 2015-2016.
Prevalent among the causes of drop-outs is due to the reloca-
tion of our students and their families to Cavite. The resettlement of
these families is one of the priority housing projects of City Govern-
ment of Pasay. The on-going transfer of these residents has started
since SY 2014-2015 up to present.
KNHS School Report Card 2015-2016
One Goal, One Team, One KNHS… Working together beyond academic excellence.
7.2 DROP-OUT RATE
For the last three school years, drop-out rates have estab-
lished an inconsistent pattern of decrease-increase.
Statistics demonstrates an average increase of 0.16% in the
for school years 2013-2016.
A slight decrease of 0.05% in drop out from the previous
school year has been recorded which can be attributed to the efforts
of the school in providing different alternative delivery modes (ADM)
like Open High School Program (OHSP), Student at Risk of Drop-
ping Out (SARDO) and Modular Approach.

One Goal, One Team, One KNHS… Working together beyond academic excellence.
8. PROMOTION RATE :
The table shows the number of students from grades 7-10 who are being promoted to the next higher grade level and its promo-tion rate.
Statistics reveals that the promotion rate for grade 7 is consist-ently decreasing for the last 3 school years, with an average de-crease of 1.08%. This is one area of concern of the school. Interven-tion should be done to help and motivate students continue their studies and eventually finish junior high school.
Figures also confirm that for SY 2015-2016, all grade 10 stu-dents have been successfully promoted which make these learners eligible to enrol to grade 11 or senior high school.

One Goal, One Team, One KNHS… Working together beyond academic excellence.
8.1 PERCENTAGE OF LEARNERS WHO COMPLETED THE
SCHOOL YEAR (PROMOTION RATE)
Table shows the promotion rate of KNHS for three consecu-
tive school years.
Statistics indicates a very slight average decrease in promo-
tion with 0.10%, with the previous two school years showing a
steady rate of 98.6%.
KNHS School Report Card 2015-2016
One Goal, One Team, One KNHS… Working together beyond academic excellence.
9. National Achievement Test Results per Subject Area
The table above shows the National Achievement Test results in mean and mean percentage scores (MPS) for three consecutive school years, SY 2012-2013 to SY 2014-2015. There is no recorded data for SY 2015-2016 because of the rescheduling of National Achievement Test.
Statistics reveals an average decrease of 6.14% in MPS with the previous school year 2014-2015 having the highest decrease of 9.81%.
It is evident that for the last three school years, Critical think-ing has shown a steady low Mean and MPS.
This is a one area of concern for the teachers, department heads and administrators which needs to be dealt with. Teachers should be able to expose the learners practice exercises which en-courage higher order thinking skills (HOTS) across all learning areas.

One Goal, One Team, One KNHS… Working together beyond academic excellence.
10. LITERACY LEVEL
The table shows the pre-test and post test of the students as re-gards their reading proficiency using the McCall-Crabbs Tests of Reading Comprehension as assessment tool.
Findings have proven that the school has been successful in im-proving the level of reading proficiency of the students. The over-all results for the students who belong to frustration level have declined from 53.02% or 282 students during the pre-test to 3.05% or 16 students in the post-test, with a difference of 49.97% or 266 students who have improved their level or reading comprehension.
The improvement in the reading proficiency of the students can be attributed to the different reading techniques and interventions that the school has effectively implemented.
The conduct of Remedial Reading Program in the school also plays a big role in the improvement of reading level of the KNHS learners.

11. SCHOOL-BASED MANAGEMENT ASSESSMENT LEVEL
Table shows the school-based management assessment lev-
el of KNHS based on its performance (using the school perfor-
mance indicators) and the SBM Assessment Score using the Re-
vised School-Based Management (SBM) Assessment tool, which is
guided by the four principles of ACCESs (A Child- and Community-
Centered Education System). The indicators of SBM practice were
contextualized from the ideals of an ACCESs school system.
Looking at the figures, the school obtained a score of 1.08 in
performance area and 0.68 in SBM assessment, with a total of 1.76
or a descriptive rating of Maturing Level.
The present SBM level of KNHS will continue to inspire its
teachers, administrators and stakeholders to strive harder until it
reaches for the prestigious advanced level.

Looking at the table above, it is evident that the school has wide-
ranging programs, projects and activities for students, teachers and par-
ents which are all supported not only by the fund subsidized by the divi-
sion/DepEd but most especially sustained by the LGU Pasay City thru the
School Education Fund.
Furthermore, the harmonious relationship of the General Parents
and Teachers Association (GPTA) including the barangay officials in the
community with the teaching and non-teaching personnel of KNHS has
proven that programs/projects/activities will be more successful and mean-
ingful with them around as significant partners of the school.

EN - Enrolment
The table shows the ratio of learner-teacher per grade level in KNHS for school year 2015-2016.
Data reveals that KNHS meets the DepED standard on the number of students per teacher as stipulated in DepED Order no. 41, s. 2012 entitled Revised Guidelines on the Opening of Classes.
With the ideal average class size of 43.5 or 44 students per class, it is expected that KNHS teachers will be able to deliver qual-ity education to all our learners especially if all the needed facilities will be provided for the school.

15. Learner-Classroom Ratio
The table shows the learner-classroom ratio per grade level.
Data indicates that the school has an average learner-
classroom ratio of 43.35.
The figures are seemingly ideal but the numbers where
extracted from a two-shift classes where grades 7 and 8 students /
grade 9 and 10 learners make use of the same classroom.

16.1 Learner-Toilet Ratio by Grade Level
The table shows the learner-toilet ratio by grade level. As mentioned in the previous table, DepED prescribed a standard ratio of 50 learners is to 1 toilet bowl. Generally, the school may be considered to be above the standard in terms of numbers. But qualitatively speaking, there are a lot more things to be done to meet the needs of the students in terms of the services they get from the school toilet. Providing these toilet necessities for the learners is one of the priorities of the school.
16.2. Learner-Toilet Ratio by Gender
Table shows the learner-toilet ratio by gender. On a standard learner–toilet ratio of 50:1, the school ratio of learner-toilet bowl for males is 1:62.48; and 1:52.72 for females. Considering the two-shift sessions, the ratio of learner-toilet for males is 1: 31.24 and 1:26.36 for females. Figures make look very ideal but the school needs more urinal facility for male toilet and additional resources like bidet and sanitary facility features per cubicle for female toilet.

17. LEARNER-SEAT RATIO
Table shows the Learner-Seat ratio of the school on double
shift classes.
Data indicates an ideal 1:1 Learner-Seat ratio.
On the other hand, with the implementation of Senior High
for school year 2016-2017, the school would be needing more seats
(and classrooms as well) as we welcome the incoming grade 11
students.

19. Status of KNHS Programs, Projects and Activities SY 2015-16
Looking at the different and diverse programs, projects and
activities of the division and the school is strictly implementing, it
is evident that teachers and students learn a lot and become bet-
ter individuals from the above-mentioned endeavors.
Successful implementation of these programs and projects
may be attributed to the leadership of the Schools Division Super-
intendent of Division of Pasay City, Dr. Evangeline P. Ladines,
CESO V; the highly motivated chiefs of the Schools Govern-
ance and Operations Division, Mrs Irene S. Tonel and Curriculum,
Instruction and Development, Mr. Bob F. Torres and all SDO-
Education Supervisors, Specialists and Unit Heads.
Moreover, the realization and sustainability of the objec-
tives of the programs, projects and activities of the division may
not be at the greater heights without the moral and financial sup-
port and cooperation of the Local Government Unit of Pasay City
under the leadership of Mayor Antonino ‘Tony’ G. Calixto and
Congw. Imelda ‘Emi’ G. Calixto Rubiano.
