LO: To define different types of water stress and scarcity. To know the causes of water conflict along the River Nile.To categorise the impacts of these issues. To suggest relevant strategies to manage this conflict.

Where does water stress occur globally?

Define ECONOMIC and PHYSICAL water scarcity.

International (Transboundary) Water Conflict

1. Describe the geographic characteristics of the River, both physical and human.2. Explain why conflicts may arise; think about these in SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, POLITICAL (and ENVIRONMENTAL?) categories.3. Outline the international-scale impacts of these issues.4. Consider the viewpoints of different stakeholders: specific countries (Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan...); NGOs (UNDP, WaterAid); local citizens involved in agriculture; international TNCs (involved in engineering projects).5. Identify potential solutions to manage the issues of water stress and the resulting conflicts.6. Come to an informed conclusion (using evidence) that states your opinion of the primary cause of the conflict and the best management solution.
