ponds, desilting of tanks, 2000 Kms of

Fire protection works inside the protected areas for next five

years.

Social Forestry Division, Udupi has filed an affidavit for raising of 5 Laksh seedlings in Govt. Land, Panchayath

lands, Schools, Roadside and

distribution to Farmers and the public for

planting in their lands. Proposed for

afforestation in 506 Ha. Of Govt lands and

roadside plantations for next five years.

Sowparniak river on the bank of which Kollur Mookambika temple is located .

The river originates at Kodachadri Hill and flows westwards and joins Arabian sea at Gangolli. The main polution of the river is at Kollur , by dumping solid waste to the river and releasing untreated water from all lodges , residential areas

Under the save Sowparnika campaign

1. Jatha was arranged on 11-01-2011 at Kollur.

2. Shramadhan was conducted with all Officials and school children to create awareness of safe disposal of solid waste.

3. A waste disposal vehicle of worth 6.00 lakhs is purchased by peoples contribution ( for each room of the lodge `500-00 was collected .

4. Local committee is formed to monitor the day to day collection of disposal.

5. Cesspool machine is purchased by the Kollur Mookambika Temple for safe disposal of liquid wastes.

• A District level committee headed by Deputy Commissioner as Chairman and DCF as member secretary and all the Dist level officers as members is implementing the programme as per govt order Dated 02.02.2010.

• 26 families have given their willingness to come out of the park with the suitable compensation.

• The Govt of Karnataka has released Rs 98.39 lakhs for implementation of rehabilitation, out of which Rs 98.21lakshs has been disbursed to the 12 families and 13.61 acres of land has been included into the National Park.

Fund Flow NHM and MNREGA

• Action has been taken to increase area of horticulture crops using funds of National Horticulture Mission. Till the end of march 2012 an area of 425 Ha of horticulture crop has been increased utilizing Rs. 64.80 lakhs. And 412 Ha of horticulture crop area is maintained utilizing Rs. 22.27 lakhs

• Under MNREGS Rs.16 lakhs have been spent in collaboration with Grama Panchayath for area expansion of Horticulture Crops.

• Under Promotion of Organic Farming 100 Ha of Horticulture area has been issued IC-3 Certificate in two clusters each 50 Ha in Udupi and Kundapura Taluk. 8 training programs for organic farming promotion are being completed under National Project on Organic Farming Scheme.

• Till the end of March 2012 Department assisted 5 Vermi Compost Units and 15 Bio-digester Units using Rs.6 lakhs under National Horticulture Mission. So as to enhance the area operated under organic method of cultivation

Note = IC-3 Certificate is issued by the organic certifying agency for conversion of land from inorganic to organic cultivation and the cultivation is declared as organic farming after 3 years of conversion period.

• Action taken to distribute bio control agents like trichoderma and Bio-fertilizers like Phosphate Solubilising Bacteria to farmers in order to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in horticulture crops.

• Till the end of March 2012 assistance has been given to promote 250 honey bee colonies under National Horticulture Mission.
