Smarter Balanced Assessments for ELA and Mathematics

Put simply, the formative assessment process gives educators information as the student is learning; interim assessments tell educators how the student is progressing toward end-of-year goals; and the

summative assessments tell educators what the student has learned by the end of year.

Leverage All Components Digital LibraryResources to support teachers in formative assessment practices are housed in the Smarter Balanced Digital Library.

Interim AssessmentsThink of interim assessments as benchmark assessments. They can be done several times a year and help inform teaching and learning. Interim assessments can be used as benchmarks, end-of-unit assessments, or in a formative manner.

What’s New for the Digital Library and Interim Assessments?

Digital Library 2.0Smarter Balanced is expected to release the Smarter Balanced Digital Library 2.0 in June 2020. The new Digital Library 2.0 resources will be embedded with formative assessment strategies and accessibility teaching strategies that can be selected within a resource.  

Focused IABs

In addition to the existing Interim ______________ Assessments, or ICAs, and Interim

California Science TestCAST Student Registration

High School Student RegistrationRepeat grade twelve students are not eligible to test.

If registered for the CAST, but did not test, will be eligible to test in the future.
