• How should an organisation prepare for such events.

350 people mobilised by Statoil aspart of the response

In total more than 2000 people evacuated

Scenario

• You receive a report of a terrorist attack– There is the potential for a significant numbers of company personnel to be involved

(local and expat).– There are, fatalities, casualties and multiple hostages– The location (and personnel) impacts a strategically important part of your business

and has the potential to significantly impact revenue

• Consider what the demands are on an organisation which has employees (possibly including family members) and contractors caught in the incident.

• And discuss if these demands vary for a fully controlled “operational” site against “an open access” site.

Consider the following

• What is the role of Group Security during such large scale events.

• How should an organisation prepare for such events.

Time Line and Locations

• 0549 on 16th Jan security liaison at In Armenas contact Hassi Massaoud – 0607 IMT formed– 0613 contact made with Algerian military

• 0618 Statoil secondee at In Armenas contacts Statoil emergency centre in Stavangar

– Followed by a call a few minutes later from the IMT– Fully mobilised by 0725 (traffic delayed)

• Algiers 0650 Statoils country office notified by colleague attending a meeting at In Armenas

– 0720 contact made with Norwegian Embassy• CEO and Head of Communications notified as the boarded a flight in Seoul
