_ Introduction :* The term Environment means the surroundings of an organism.

* The total environment of an organism is the sum total of the biotic and abiotic environments.

* the environment at any place is a combination or sum total of the natural component and the human-made component.

_ What is Environmental Degradation ?

* Environmental degradation is a complex process involving transformation , alteration or material loss from any one of the environmental components .

_ How Environmental Degradation Occurs :

Environmental changes are based on two factors :

( i ) Physical or Natural ( ii ) Human

_ Physical or Natural Environmental Degradation

There are certain natural phenomena which caused environmental degradation . Since these phenomena are natural , man s role is not significant, but at times man accelerates the process.

Nowadays, human beings are the major cause of the deterioration of the environment.
