Sew Easy Sundress

Easy Sewing Project for Janome 1200

Milinda Jay Stephenson, Ph.D

Supplies Needed

• 1 tank top

• 1 yard very wide elastic

• 1 ½ yard silky polyester material

• Rolled hem foot D

• Dual feed holder twin, dual feed foot OD

• Pins

• thread

Step 1: Measure Elastic

• Measure just below your bust, or at your waist depending upon whether you would like an empire waist style or you would like a natural waist style dress.

• Add and inch to this measurement, and cut elastic

Step 2: Measure Material for Skirt of Dress

• Measure your hips and add 4-6 inches depending upon how full you want your skirt

• Cut a width of material based upon this measurement.

• Measure from your bust or waist

to where you would like your

hem to fall. Cut material this length.

Step 3: Trim Tank Top

• Draw a chalk line either at natural waist (for regular waist) or below bust (for empire waist)

• Cut off bottom of tank top

Step 4: Sew elastic together

• Sew ends of elastic together, right sides together.

• Use stretch stitch on your sewing machine

Step 4: Topstitch elastic

• Turn elastic to right side and top stitch seam

Step 5: Mark quarters of elastic and tank and pin right sides together

• Mark the sides and the center front and center back on both elastic and tank.

• Pin right sides together at quarter marks

Step 5: Sew elastic to tank top, right sides together, stretching to fit

Step 6: Sew skirt together

• Sew skirt together, right sides together making a center back seam.

• Use dual feed foot

OD to guarantee perfectly

matched seams

Step 7: Attach material to elastic band stretching to fit

• Pin material to elastic tube right sides together, matching sides, center back and center front.

• Sew together, stretching as you go so that elastic stretches to match quarter marks

Step 8: Press and Hem

• Attach narrow rolled hem foot D

Finished!
