Heb 5:7-10

That cliché has been part of our vernacular since Days of

Our Lives first aired on November 8, 1965.

It is true that the days of our lives are “as sands through the

hourglass.”

“In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and

supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able

to save him from death, and he was heard because of his

reverence” (v 7, ESV).

On this earth, Jesus had a very active prayer life.

The thrust of this passage is certainly on the Garden & the

cross.

Sometimes we seem to think that if God doesn‟t answer according to our

will, he hasn‟t heard or we‟ve sinned or we didn‟t pray hard enough.

Great things happened because the Father told Jesus, “No.”

under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is

Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil 2:8-11, ESV).

How could Jesus not be expected to obey the Father?

◦ Jesus came to this earth out of great humility & awesome love!

As a son, Jesus learned obedience.

◦ In taking on human flesh, Jesus suffered the same temptations,

heartaches, & sorrows that we face.

suffering.

We must obey the Father.

◦ The idea is that through the cross Jesus brought his work of salvation

to completion.

me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does

bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit” (Jn 15:1-2, ESV).

“Being designated by God a high priest after the order of

Melchizedek” (v 10, ESV).

Jesus was called to be a priest.
