Heb 5:7-10

That cliché has been part of our vernacular since Days of

Our Lives first aired on November 8, 1965.

It is true that the days of our lives are “as sands through the

hourglass.”

Jesus is from eternity.


But, the days of his life on this earth were quite short.

◦ This morning we wish to compare “The Days of His Life” to “The

Days of Our Lives.”

“In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and

supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able

to save him from death, and he was heard because of his

reverence” (v 7, ESV).

The thrust of this passage is certainly on the Garden & the

Jesus prayed to the One who could save him from death.

in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever

Our God has the power to answer every prayer!

Sometimes we seem to think that if God doesn‟t answer according to our

will, he hasn‟t heard or we‟ve sinned or we didn‟t pray hard enough.

Great things happened because the Father told Jesus, “No.”

Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil 2:8-11, ESV).

“Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what

he suffered” (v 8, ESV).

Jesus is the unique Son of God.

How could Jesus not be expected to obey the Father?

When he was on this earth, Jesus was expected to obey the

Father.

fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness” (Mt 3:15, ESV).

As a son, Jesus learned obedience.

He experienced obedience on this earth.

◦ Yet, he himself had never be subjected to obedience.



◦ In taking on human flesh, Jesus suffered the same temptations,

heartaches, & sorrows that we face.

Jesus learned this obedience through suffering.

occur after 40 days of fasting.

suffering.

We must obey the Father.

burdensome” (1 Jn 5:2-3, ESV).

Through his suffering, the Lord Jesus was made perfect.

◦ The idea is that through the cross Jesus brought his work of salvation

to completion.


Therefore, he became the source of eternal life to the

obedient.

We can also be the source of eternal salvation to people.

◦ But, we can lead people to salvation in Jesus.

delivered your soul” (Ez 33:7-9, ESV).


◦ But, we can lead people to salvation in Jesus. Ez 33:7-9.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in

me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does

bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit” (Jn 15:1-2, ESV).

Melchizedek” (v 10, ESV).

Jesus was called to be a priest.

like the priestly-king, was not a descendent of Aaron.

God is not calling us to be priests after the order of

Melchizedek, but he is calling us to ministry.



The Lord has given us talents he expects to be used in his

service.
