Holy Michael, the Archangel, defend us
in battle. Be our safeguard against the
wickedness and snares of the devil. May God
rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you,
O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power
of God cast into hell Satan and all the evil
spirits who wander through the world seeking
the ruin of souls.
Amen

GATHERING HYMN
Joyful, Joyful, We Adore You
Joyful, Joyful, we adore you, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flow’rs before you, Op’ning to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, Drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day!
All your works with joy surround you, Earth and heav’n reflect your rays, Stars and angels sing around you, Center of unbroken praise; Field and forest, vale and mountain, Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea, Chanting bird and flowing fountain, Praising you eternally!
GLORIA
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM GOSPEL ACCLAMATION R/. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of
heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten
Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God
from God, Light from Light, true God from true
God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the
Father; through him all things were made. For us
men and for our salvation he came down from
heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the
Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was
crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and
was buried, and rose again on the third day in accor-
dance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will
come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of
life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who
with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and
I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the
life of the world to come. Amen.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST
HOLY, HOLY Mass of Christ the Savior Dan Schutte (b. 1947)
A Pennsylvania Charitable Trust and A Parish of the Diocese of Greensburg
A single mother who has a child with special needs works
two jobs and sacrifices much of her own pleasures in order to
be available for her son. Being the best mother possible is
important to her and brings her joy. We are willing to make
great and often heroic sacrifices for those people and things
that matter most to us. Unless there is something of obvious
importance to us in our immediate path, we can easily
approach life in a more haphazard and chaotic way. We jump
from one thing to another, responding to whatever it is that is
competing for our attention at that moment. When everything
is important, nothing is important.
If we do not wear the right pair of glasses, we can get all
too easily caught up in the superficial stuff and neglect
paying attention to the things that really matter. The kingdom
of God is like the pearl of great price that is worth selling
everything for so that it can be obtained. Based on where I
invest my time and energy each day, I really wonder whether
I am serving God’s kingdom or my own. Have you ever
considered tracking how you spend your time? You may be
surprised! We allow our agendas to set the clock of our lives.
We forget that joy and a true sense of purpose are not going
to be found in following that timepiece. Joy is the expression
of the happiness that is discovered when living in the
kingdom of God. When our agenda matches God, not only
do we leap for joy but God leaps with delight as well. Our
well-being is what matters most to God.
Can you imagine God delighting in you? It is easy to
deaden our senses to the whole reality of God and the joy that
living the Gospel can bring. The demands of secular life and
the agendas competing for our attention can quickly do that.
We can get tired and spiritually apathetic. But if we can see
our way through all of the conflicting voices and hear the
voice of God, we can rediscover our zeal and passion and
redirect our efforts. When we begin to see as God sees, we
can rise each day and notice what really needs our attention
and embrace it with exuberance. Be careful, though. It may
not be what we originally had on our list. Responding to it,
however, will be worth putting everything else aside.

RECESSIONAL
Let All Things Now Living
Let all things now living A song of thanksgiving To God our Creator triumphantly raise; Who fashioned and made us, Protected and stayed us, By guiding us on to the end of our days. God’s banners are o’er us, Pure light goes before us, A pillar of fire shining forth in the night; Till shadows have vanished And darkness is banished, As forward we travel from light into light.

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE
DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
BIBLE: The Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation, Dei Verbum, of the Second Vatican Council provides guidelines
for understanding and interpreting the Bible. It teaches that revelation is given so that the whole world may believe (#1).
It further states that the Magisterium is not above the Word of God but seeks the truth, then guards it and explains it with the help
of the Holy Spirit. God composed the sacred books by inspiring men to use their powers and abilities to write only and all that
he wanted to reveal. For a correct understanding of Scripture, the sacred author’s styles of feeling, speaking and narrating must
be considered. Attention must also be given to the internal content and to the unity of Scripture as a whole. The words of God
are expressed in human language just as the Word of God took on human flesh (##10~13).
Beatitudes through the Eyes of Creation: Jesus gave us the Sermon on the Mount in which he woke us up with the
Beatitudes, those thoughts about where true happiness resides. The world looks to acquiring goods, wealth, power and prestige
as the source of happiness. Jesus, says we are looking in all the wrong places; caring about others, being merciful toward others,
striving for a right relationship with everyone, all with our focus on God, are the places where we will find true happiness. The
Franciscan Friars share how the Beatitudes of Jesus lead them to find true happiness through the gift of creation. We glean the
fruits of their spirit by listening to one such beatitude each week. Following each beatitude is a suggested activity to deepen your
own relationship with all of creation. Blessed are those who heal the wounded earth for they will be restored to right relationship
with all of Creation. Find true happiness deep in your soul by seeing every person as kin in Christ – regardless of race, political
persuasion, religion, sexual orientation, appearance, economic status, mental or physical ability.

NEW EVANGELIZATION “The New Evangelization has a natural progression that
engages the work of the Church in a three-fold movement:
1. Faith: Inviting Catholics to a deeper relationship with
Christ, and a deeper understanding of and relationship with
his Church, and knowledge of the faith; 2. Worship:
(Participating) in a vibrant community and sacramental life,
most intensively in the Eucharist and Penance, but also
through Marriage and greater appreciation of the family as
the domestic church; 3. Witness: Strengthening of our
understanding of the Christian vocation where believers, living out their vocation to be witnesses, work to transform
society through living and sharing their faith in Jesus Christ
and giving recognition to the life and dignity of the human
person” (Strategic/Pastoral Plan, New Evangelization,
USCCB, 2013).
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Heavenly Father, your loving providence accompanies
us on our life’s journey.
Thank you for the many gifts you have given us.
We ask that you continue to call sons and daughters
from our families and parishes
to serve as priests, deacons and consecrated men and
women in the Diocese of Greensburg.
Send your Spirit upon us
so that many will respond with great love
to your call to service and leadership in your Church.
Give to those you have chosen the faith of the apostle,
the vision of the prophet, and the courage of the martyr.
Through the intercession of our Diocesan patroness, Our
Lady of the Assumption, help us to be faithful
disciples of your Son by following the example of Mary.
Make us generous in sharing ourselves and our talents
for the sake of your Kingdom on earth.
We ask this through Christ the Risen Lord.
Amen
