SUPERINTENDENT’S HONORS MUSIC FESTIVAL Middle School Honors Concert Band Audition Information Michael Scott, Conductor Elissa Vento-Tatum, Coordinator Audition Information Date: Thursday, January 25, 2018, 4:30-8:30 PM Location: Miami Coral Park Senior High School (8865 SW 16th Street, Miami, FL 33165) Audition Requirements. 1— Prepared Selection (see following pages – the measures between the brackets only) 2-- A two-octave chromatic scale, from memory, covering the range for their instrument (as given in the 2017 FBA All-State Audition Requirements.) Third octaves are optional. The scale will be performed in even eighth notes at a tempo of quarter note = 144. The scale will be tongued ascending and slurred descending. Chromatic scale requirements may be found by copying and pasting the following link into your web browser: http://fba.flmusiced.org/media/1420/middle-school-band-2016-2017-v3.pdf 3-- Major scales, from memory, complete with arpeggios. Students will be asked to perform 3 of the following 7 major scales (in concert pitch): G, C, F, B flat, E flat, A flat, and D flat. Scales are to be performed 2 octaves where possible. Students who wish to play a 3rd octave may do so. The scale pattern should follow the FBA All-State Audition Requirements. The scales are to be tongued ascending and slurred descending. The student will be asked to perform scales in their transposed form. The student will have thirty seconds to study the piece before playing it.
