Article abstractRound table organized to highlight the career of the Quebec sociologist MarcelRioux. Participants were invited to address themselves to the followingquestion: "What do sociologists have to say in a critical perspective aboutcontemporary societies (Quebec included) and their future?" The followingtopics were explored in greater detail : 1 ) What are the main sociologicalperspectives which have developed or are developing in Quebec? How doeseach perspective present - or not present - a critical orientation? 2) What is acritical perspective in sociology? How has this perspective developed inQuebec and in what does its originality lie? 3) What is the specific contributionof sociology in general - and of critical sociology - in relation to the role of theintellectual in our type of society? In addition to Marcel Rioux, the participantswere: Fernand Dumont, Marcel Fournier, Gabriel Gagnon, NicoleLaurin-Frenette, Greg Marc Nielsen.
