Mission
PIANC is „THE global organisation providing guidance for sustainable waterborne transport, ports and waterways‟.
UN Millennium Development Goal No.7:
ensure environmental sustainability
‘Sustainable’ means:
“… meeting the needs of the present without compromising the
ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
• Promote the development and improvement of global
waterborne transport infrastructure and enhancement of
its economic, environmental and social benefits
• Be proactive in dealing with the impact of climate change
• Promote the philosophy of ‘Working with Nature’
