Tracking website visitors with

Google Sites

To set-up a Google website for tracking, go to http://sites.google.com and enter the Google email address and password. **Most schools use Gmail and this would be the same email and password combination, but you can also create a new account from this page for free.

After creating a Google site, the following steps will help you set up visitor tracking:

Step 1: Get an Analytics tracking ID 1. Sign up for an Analytics account if you don’t already have one.

2. Get your Analytics tracking ID.

Step 2: Add Analytics tracking 1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.

3. Enter a valid tracking ID. It should look like: UA-XXXXXX-X

4. Click Save. (It can take up to 24 hours for data to show up in Analytics.)

Step 3: See your data and report your information 1. Open Analytics.

Tracking website visitors with

WIX.com

To create a website with WIX, go to www.wix.com and click “Get Started.”

Then, click the light blue box on the right to use your Google email login to create a new website.

After creating a new site on WIX, use the following steps to track website visitors: Step 1: Retrieve your Google Analytics tracking ID:

1. Sign in to your Google Analytics account. (Directions for creation are above.)

2. Click on the Admin icon at the bottom left of the page.

3. Go to the Property section and click Tracking Info.

4. Copy your tracking code. Step 2: Add your Google Analytics tracking ID: 1. Click here to go to your site's dashboard.

2. Click Manage Website on the left.

3. Click Tracking & Analytics.

4. Click + New Tool and select Google Analytics from the dropdown.

5. Paste your tracking code into the Google Analytics Tracking ID field.

6. Note: Make sure that there are no extra spaces before the code.

7. Select the IP Anonymization checkbox to ensure that Google does not save your site

visitors' IP addresses.

8. Click Submit.

Tips:

You do not need to add the code to each page of your site.

If you have connected multiple domains to your site, make sure to add your Google Analytics code to your primary domain only, rather than your secondary domain(s).

It may take up to one week before you see statistics in your Google Analytics account.
