The Past Continuous expresses an activity that was in progress,

occurring or happening at some point in time in the past. It is also

called the Past Progressive.

Where were you

I was at home:

I was sitting on the sofa.

I was using my laptop.

I was taking my English virtual class.

Here are three situations in which we use the Past Continuous:

1. An action was in progress at a particular time:

Victor was watching TV yesterday evening.

2. Two actions were in progress at the same time (the actions do not affect

each other)

While Javie was reading the newspaper, Hector

was taking a shower.

3. Repeated actions that annoy the speaker (Use “constantly” or “always”

after To Be.

He was always screaming on the phone. ( I didn`t like it)

Subject To Be V - ing complement

I was helping my brother

You were listening to music.

he was working all day

she was drinking a lot of water.

It was eating the food.

We were fixing the car.

They were painting their house.

The verb “to be” + “not” makes the sentence negative in the past continuous.

Lucy was not doing well in school.
