The world is full of interacting systems that depend on each other.

An Inquiry into:

How animals and plants have adaptedto the diversity of ecosystems and the human and natural impact on these ecosystems.

Connected curriculum areas: Science (ecosystems, adaptations)

English (persuasive writing)

Media Arts (use technology to plan, produce and present)

Design Technology (use sketches and reflection to design)

Central Idea:

Communication of time and place through stories.

The historic and contemporary impacts of colonisation including significant people and events that shaped Australia’s colonial past and the impact of these on colonial developments and the environment.

Term 1

No excursions or incursions to allow for routines, expectations and rich teaching

Term 2

Student-planned and led excursion to Brisbane City CBD

Identify key locations of historical significance to Brisbane, (Commissariat Stores,

Town Hall etc.) linking to our units of work on Post-colonialism era

Parent helpers required

Term 3

Science Week activities and Footsteps

To be finalised– Science Week August (Science Fair or similar) and FootSteps

Dance linked to our Arts program

Term 4

Camp Goodenough (T4 W1) and Travel Expo

Parents invited to participate in student presentations

Homework

Different in every class in terms of due dates, content and format.

Teachers will spend time explicitly teaching homework expectations and

communicate these to parents.

Intended to be an activity to build responsibility and reinforce class learning.

All classes agree that homework will be:

Daily reading

Number facts and problem solving

Literacy and language practice

Homework will not be:

Hours upon hours– see your teacher if it is too difficult

Any new content

Opt-in or out– it is an essential skill for organisation and practice
