On 05 March 2014 Wednesday, an emergency session of Raabitah-e-Madaaris-e-Islamiyyah Arabiyyah (RMIA) Darul-Uloom Deoband branch Jammu & Kashmir was called by its esteemed President, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Sahib Qasmi Daamat-Barakatuhum, at Darul-Uloom Raheemiyyah Bandipora Kashmir. The session was attended by the respected members of Majlis-e-Aamilah (Working Committee) and Majlis-e-Ta’leemi (Education-Board) of RMIA Darul-Uloom Deoband branch J&K, besides the prominent scholars of Islam and respected teachers of Deeni-Madaaris of the J&K state. It was a brainstorming session in which the consequences of RTE Act and Madrassa-Board like highly topical issues, besides examinations, curriculum and mechanism for imparting education and training, were discussed. Next day, that is, on 06 March 2014, a general-session of RMIA was convened and it was attended by all the heads and responsible persons of Deeni-Madaaris of all the districts of the J&K state. Besides resolving to strengthen Raabitah-e-Madaaris-e-Islamiyyah Arabiyyah (RMIA) branch Jammu & Kashmir, the general-session passed the following resolutions unanimously. 1. A demand was made for exempting Madrassas and

Islamic institutions of the J&K state from RTE Act bringing it into line with the rest of the country as the Parliament had already exempted Madrassas and religious institutes from RTE Act by making amendment to the Act.

2. The general-session reiterated that for upholding the autonomy of such Madrassas that are following the comprehensive pattern of Darul-Uloom Deoband, there is

no need of setting up of government-based Madrassa-Board as a very capable and competent Madrassa-Board is already in existence there, and the same is functioning efficiently under the dynamic leadership of the great scholars of Darul-Uloom Deoband.

3. The session stressed that Deeni-Madaaris shall give particular attention to the teaching of Urdu, Mathematics, English, Science & Social Science in the elementary classes of the Holy Qur’an, and the same is already on the curriculum of Darul-Uloom Deoband.

4. The session called upon the Madrassas with emphasis to keep on organizing reformative programmes and events for ridding the society of waywardness, immodesty, immorality, drug abuse and to free the Muslim society from the burden of un-Islamic customs being practised on the occasions of marriage and funeral.

5. The RMIA session underlined the need for setting up part-time institutes: Deeni-Makaatib for teaching the Holy Qur’an and the basics of Islam in every Masjid and Mahalla for school-going children.

6. The session underscored that the respected Imams should teach the classes of translation and Tafseer of the Holy Qur’an for common Muslims at their respective Masaajid.

7. This general-session of RMIA repeated the demand with an urgent need that the Urdu language should be made the medium of teaching at schools and colleges, as per early times, in view of the dangers to the future generation of Kashmir of becoming unrelated to Deen.

TAFSEER ( C o m m e n t a r y o f t h e H o l y Q u r ’ a n ) By: Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi Sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)

SURAH AL-BAQARAH Note: This part of Tafseer is the remaining portion of Surah Al-Baqarah Tafseer and hence connected with the previous chapter of Surah Al-Baqarah Tafseer.

VERSE 77 - 79

o o

o

Are they not aware that Allah Ta’ala knows what they conceal and what they manifest? And some among them are illiterate who have no knowledge of the Book but have some fancies, and they do nothing but make conjectures. So, woe to those who write the Book with their hands and then say, “This is from Allah”, so that they may gain a small price out of it. Then, woe to them for what their hands have written, and woe to them for what they earn. (Verse 77-79)

Allah Ta’ala reminds the Jews that He is omniscient, and knows what they try to keep concealed as well as what they say or do openly. So, it would make no difference at all, if the hypocrites tried to conceal their infidelity from the Muslims, or the other

Page 4: An Noor, April 2014

group, not to disclose the verse of the Torah which speaks of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam). For, Allah Ta’ala Himself had, no different occasions, informed the Muslims in the Holy Qur’an as to the hypocrisy of certain Jews and as to the testimony of the Torah also. Verse 77 deals with the educated ones among the Jews, while verse 79 speaks of those who were unlettered. These men had no understanding. Then, the Jewish scholars did not give them correct or proper information about their religion. No wonder, their minds were stuffed only with baseless superstitions which they found very pleasant and flattering.

Since the dishonesty of their scholars was the real cause of their superstitiousness, the crime of the former was greater than that of the latter. So, Verse 79 turns to the Jewish scholars. They were greedy and self-seeking, and in order to please the people for receiving money and respect from the, they used to misrepresent divine injunctions, going so far as to change the words of the Torah or distort the sense, pretending all the while that this was just what Allah had said or meant. The Verse 79 announces a grievous punishment for these two sins-distorting the Word of Allah and earning money by doing so.

A doctrinal point Verse 78 says that the illiterate Jews follow that Zann, that is to say, their fancies or conjectures. Some people do not pay any attention to the context in what

Page 5: An Noor, April 2014

April 2014 Jamadi’uth Thani 1435 7

the word has been used here, and come to the erroneous conclusion that it is not legitimate to accept or follow any view or injunction based on Zann, which they always translate as “a fanciful supposition.” This, no doubt, is one of the lexical meanings of the word, but only one. Let us explain that the Holy Qur’an uses the word Zann in three ways:-

1. To signify perfect certitude-“Those who are certain that they are going to meet their Lord” (2:46)

2. To signify the greatest likelihood – “And he said to him whom he thought was the more likely of the two to be released from the prison” (12:42).

3. To signify a mere fanciful supposition – as in the present verse. The Zann which the Holy Qur’an prohibits us to follow is that of the third kind. This verse condemns the Jews for having followed this kind of Zann which consists in a fanciful opinion that is not supported by a respectable argument or goes against a valid one. On the contrary, it is necessary to follow the Zann of the first two kinds. When certain ahadith or certain arguments and conclusions in the Shari’ah are described as resting on Zann, it is done according to the second signification of the word. One cannot avoid this kind of Zann in any sphere of life, and the Shari’ah requires us to accept and follow it. Certain verses of the Holy Qur’an, of course, condemn those who follow their Zann, but to apply this condemnation to all the possible cause, and to use such verses for rejecting all the legitimate arguments and injunctions of the Shari’ah based on Zann is to betray one’s ignorance of the Holy Qur’an.

Tas-heelul Ahadeeth

Translation: Sayyidna Ibn Umar (Raziyallahu-anhuma) reports

that Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) said: ‘Jibra’eel (Alaihis-Salaam) continuously advised me regarding the neighbour (to be good to him) until I thought that soon he would make the neighbour an inheritor. (Bukhari, Muslim)

Commentary: We are all aware that when a man leaves the world, his neighbour does not inherit from his estate. The object of this Hadith is to highlight the rights of the neighbour. The extent of the neighbour’s right may be understood from the fact that even non-Muslim neighbours have rights. Hazrat Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said that there are three types of neighbours viz:

Page 7: An Noor, April 2014

April 2014 Jamadi’uth Thani 1435 9

1. The Muslim neighbour who is also your relative. He has three rights: a. The right of being a Muslim. b. The right of being your relative. c. The right of being your neighbour.

2. The Muslim neighbour who is not your relative. He has two rights: a. The right of being a Muslim. b. The right of being your neighbour.

3. The non-Muslim neighbour: He has only one right: a. The right of being your neighbour.

(Note: The above does not mean that he has the right to be your neighbour or the right to be a Muslim etc. it means that he has one right over you because he is a Muslim and he has another right over you because he is your neighbour).

Lesson:

The neighbour has many rights over one. A Muslim must be kind and respectful to his

neighbour, whether the neighbour be a Muslim or Kaafir.

Seerat-e-Paak Nabi ’s Love for Children

By: Hazrat Maulana Abu Talhah Muhammad Izharul Hasan Mahmood Sahib Translated By: Hazrat Mufti Afzal Husain Elias Sahib

LOVE SHOWN TOWARDS CHILDREN IN GENERAL

TEACHING CHILDREN WITH LOVE AND AFFECTION:

A child is advised not to throw stones at dates:

Hazrat Amar-Ibn-Abbas (Raziyallahu-anhu) narrates the following incident of his childhood in these words:

As young boy I would go into the date-gardens of the Ansaar and break dates of the trees by throwing stones at them. One day they caught me and brought me to Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi- Wasallam) complaining about my action. Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi- Wasallam) asked me why I threw stones at the dates and I said so that I could drop them from the tree.

Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi- Wasallam) then advised me thus, “Do not throw stones at the dates, but eat that which falls off the trees.” (He advised him thus as throwing stones harms the trees.) He then placed his hand over my head and made the following Du’aa, “O Allah you satiate his stomach.” (Abu-Dawud)

Page 9: An Noor, April 2014

April 2014 Jamadi’uth Thani 1435 11

In other words, with great love and affection he thought him that he should not throw stones at the trees, but eat that which fell off the trees, and in the same breath he made Du’aa for him.

Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) teaches a child how to skin an animal:

Hazrat Abu Sa’eed Khudri (Raziyallahu-anhu) narrates that the Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) passed by a child of approximately twelve to thirteen years of age whilst the child was busy skinning an animal.

He told the lad, “Hang on. Let me show you how to skin an animal.”

He then placed his fist between the skin and body of the animal pushing his hand forward until he reached the shoulder of the animal. He then told the lad, “Now this is how you skin an animal.”

Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) then went to the Masjid and led the congregation in Salah without renewing his ablution (wuzu). (Ibn-Majah)

Let me teach you a few lessons, son:

Hazrat Ibn-Abbas (Raziyallahu-anhu) says that he was once travelling on the same conveyance as Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) was seated behind. Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) addressed him thus, “I would like to teach you few lessons. Protect the

Page 10: An Noor, April 2014

April 2014 Jamadi’uth Thani 1435 12

commands of Allah Ta’ala and he will protect you. Implement the orders of Allah Ta’ala and you will always find Him before you. When you ask, ask of Allah Ta’ala alone. When you seek assistance, seek assistance from Allah Ta’ala alone. Remember, If the entire creation has to gather and try to bring benefit to you in any way, they will not be able to benefit you accept to the extent decreed for you. Remember, if the entire creation had to try and cause harm to you, they will not be able to cause any harm to accept to the extent decreed for you.” (Musnad-e-Ahmad)

Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) first turned him attention forwards himself, and then taught him the above mentioned important lessons. Those parents to whom this Hadith is learnt should teach their children these important lessons of life. This is binding upon you as a parent. Children are also urged to extract time from their parents for purposes of learning such lessons as this is your right.

Do not make a live object your target, children:

Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) once saw a few children from amongst the Ansaar playing at a certain spot. Since Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi- Wasallam) had encouraged archery, these children had tried a chicken and made it their target. Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-Alaihi- Wasallam) immediately stopped them and told them not to cause pain to something with life in this manner. (Musnad-e-Ahmad) (To be continued, Insha Allah)

ADVICES

THE DEOBAND ULAMA AND THEIR LOVE FOR

HAZRAT RASULULLAH

From the teachings and advices of Faqeehul-Ummat, Hazrat Mufti Mahmood Hasan Sahib Gangohi (Rahmatullahi-Alaihi)

Compiled by: Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Sahib Kashmiri (Daamat- Barakatuhum)

(Continued from the previous issue of AN-NOOR)

Questions posed to Hazrat Mufti Sahib (Rahmatullahi-alaihi)

Question One

Question: “What is the position of a person’s Salah in which the vision of Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-alaihi-

wasallam) comes to one’s heart intentionally or unintentionally?”

Answer: "If one concentrates so deeply on the vision that he negates everything else including Tauheed (The

Oneness of Allah Ta'ala), then this has been termed Shirk. Who would he be calling out to when he reads,

(Only You do we worship and only from You do

we seek assistance)? On the other hand, mere imagination does not harm one's Salah in any way. When one reads Durood-Shareef, then naturally the thought goes towards Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam). This is acceptable.

Page 12: An Noor, April 2014

Question Two

Question: What was the kayfiyat (condition) of Hazrat Gangohi (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) when these questions were posed to him?

Answer: “Brother, those who are acquainted in this field would be able to explain better.”

Question Three

Question: "would people ask Hazrat Maulana (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) controversial questions? "

Answer: "Yes, those Masaa’il wherein differences of opinion were also asked, for example Meelaad, Qiyaam (standing and reciting Salaam), Niyaaz, Faatihah, etc.

The esteemed rector of Darul-Uloom Deoband, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Sahib (Maulana Qari Muhammad Toyyib Sahib's father) dreamt that he was with Hazrat Haaji Imdadullah Sahib in Makkah- Mukarramah. Hazrat Haaji Sahib (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) was saying, "When there seems to be some permissibility for meelad and qiyaam in the Fiqh-kitaabs (books of Islamic Jurisprudence), why do you people condemn these practices so strongly?" To this Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Sahib replied, "Hazrat, there is no leeway in this regard. Had there been any permissibility (in these Masaa’il), we would not have taken such a

Page 13: An Noor, April 2014

firm stand against it." Hazrat Haaji Sahib (Rahmatullahi-

alaihi) then said, "There must be some leeway in this." Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Sahib again confirmed, "Hazrat, there is no leeway."

Hazrat Haaji Imdaadullah Sahib (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) then asked, "What if we get Hazrat Nabi-e-Kareem (Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam) to sanction (these actions), then what (would you say)?" Maulana replied, “In that case there would be no need for us to stop them. We are stopping people from this practice because of Hazrat Nabi-e-Kareem’s (Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam) command."

As he was saying this, Hazrat Nabi-e-Kareem (Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam) arrived and said, "Brother, this youngster (Maulana Muhammad Ahmad) is correct". He mentioned this to Hazrat Haaji Sahib (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) who immediately responded, "This is correct. This is right." Hazrat Haaji Sahib (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) then stood up and began lowering his head. He continued to do so until he reached the ground. Then he raised his head. He said the words “correct and right” seven times. This reaction of Hazrat Haaji Sahib (Rahmatullahi-Alaihi) was done in the manner the kings of the past were revered. When Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Shah Sahib saw Hazrat Nabi-e-Akram (Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam), he immediately stood up in one corner with his hands folded in respect.

Page 14: An Noor, April 2014

April 2014 Jamadi’uth Thani 1435 16

When Hazrat Haaji Sahib (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) finished, Hazrat Nabi-e-Kareem (Sallallahu-alaihi-

wasallam) asked, "May I leave now? Haaji Sahib (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) replied, “As Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam) wishes.” Whilst Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam) was returning, he passed close to where Maulana (Ahmad Sahib) was standing. Maulana gained courage and asked, "The description of Hazrat Muhammad (Sallallahu-alaihi-

wasallam) which we read in the Ahaadith is different (from what I am seeing now). Your appearance at present is that of Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (Rahmatullahi-alaihi). I am confused." Hazrat Nabi-e-Kareem (Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam) explained, "My actual description is indeed what you have read in the Ahaadith, but because you have great love and respect for Hazrat Maulana Gangohi (Rahmatullahi-

alaihi), I have appeared in his form.” [End of the dream].

Maulana Haafiz Ahmad Sahib (Rahmatullahi-alaihi), who was in India, wrote a letter to Hazrat Haaji Sahib (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) in Makkah Mukarramah, where he was residing, relating this dream to him. Hazrat Haaji Sahib (Rahmatullahi-alaihi), overjoyed (on reading the letter) said, "Write down this dream and when I die place it in a niche in my grave."

(To be concluded, Insha-Allah)

MALFOOZAAT

Statements and Anecdotes of Faqeehul-Ummat, Hazrat Maulana Mufti Mahmood Hasan Gangohi Sahib

..

Compiled By: Hazrat Maulana Mufti Farooq Meeruti Sahib (Daamat- Barakatuhum)

The things that came with Aadam (Alaihi-Salaam) from Jannah

Allah Ta’ala admitted Aadam (Alaihi-Salaam) and Hazrat Hawwa (Alaihaa-Salaam) into Jannah and commanded them:

[And both of you eat freely from wherever you wish, but do not come close to this tree, otherwise both of you would be of the wrongdoers.] 2:35

However, Hazrat Aadam (Alaihi-Salaam) had come to the tree and partook of its fruit. The fibres of the fruit got stuck in his teeth and he broke a branch of a tree to use as a toothpick. The clothing that he was wearing which covered his body, as fingernails cover the fingertips, fell off his body. As soon as it fell off, his modesty and shame overcome him. Whichever tree he approached to break its leaves, moved away. It was the fig tree that offered its leaves. Hazrat Aadam (Alaihi-

Page 16: An Noor, April 2014

April 2014 Jamadi’uth Thani 1435 18

Salaam) took its leaves and covered his body. The jewellery of Jannah that Hazrat Aadam (Alaihi-Salaam) was wearing also fell off his body except for a ring that he had placed in his mouth. After Shaitaan had caused him to err, he rested against a boulder.

When Hazrat Aadam (Alaihi-Salaam) was sent to earth, the leaves on his body, the boulder that he rested against and the branch that he broke to use as a toothpick came along as well. All the trees of Jannah cried when Hazrat Aadam (Alaihi-Salaam) had erred except for the oud tree. Hence, the oud tree was also sent to earth.

On coming to earth the fig leaves dried up with the wind and fell off their bodies. A deer ate the leaves that fell off Hazrat Aadam’s (Alaihi-Salaam) body and a worm ate the leaves that fell off Hazrat Hawwa’s (Alaihi- Salaam) body. The leaves eaten by the deer turned into musk and the leaves eaten by the worm turned into silk. Therefore, only men are allowed to wear perfumes that emit a beautiful fragrance and not women (i.e. when leaving the home). Similarly, only women are allowed to wear silken clothing and not men.

When they became naked, an angel brought wool that was removed from a sheep being reared in Jannah. The angel came to Hazrat Hawwa (Alaihaa-

Salaam) and said, “Prepare a set of clothing for yourself and one for Hazrat Aadam (Alaihi-Salaam).” Hazrat Hawwa (Alaihaa-Saalam) said, “I have been given a double duty. I have to prepare clothing for myself and

Page 17: An Noor, April 2014

April 2014 Jamadi’uth Thani 1435 19

for Hazrat Aadam (Alaihi-Salaam).” Therefore, it is a necessary duty of the wife to serve her husband.

The angel then ordered Hazrat Aadam (Alaihi-

Salaam) to earn a living for himself and Hazrat Hawwa (Alaihaa-Salaam) and he showed him the different methods of earning. Hazrat Aadam (Alaihi-Salaam) said, “I have to earn for two, myself and Hawwa.” So the expenditure of the wife is the responsibility of the husband. Therefore, the son’s share is double the daughter’s share in inheritance, as mentioned in the Holy Qur’an:

[For the son is double the share of the daughter.] 4:11

The oud tree was given the punishment of being burnt and the smoke that it emits has a beautiful scent. This is its only usage.

The ring that Hazrat Aadam (Alaihi-Salaam) kept in his mouth became the ring of Hazrat Sulymaan (Alaihi-

Salaam). The branch that he had broken to use as a

toothpick became the staff of Hazrat Moosa (Alaihi-

Salaam) through which three thousand miracles were exposed. The boulder against which he rested became the Hajr-e-Aswad (black stone) towards which one’s sins are forgiven. In the beginning, it was extremely white and shiny. The entire area that its radiance reached is known as the Haram.

Become a sincere and active aalim

THE COMPLAINT OF THE PEOPLE OF THIS WORLD On the other hand, we have heard of people dying of overeating. Imam Muslim (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) was looking for hadith, and had some dates by his side. He was so engrossed in his search that he kept on eating one date after another without knowing. He overate, and died as a result. Therefore, we do have examples of people in his career dying of hunger or thirst. All Praise be to Allah Ta’ala, He opens up the doors of sustenance for the seekers of Ilm. This is what people fear; saying that if one becomes an Aalim, where will he get his food? O slaves of Allah Ta’ala! You will get your sustenance from the same source that Allah Ta’ala fed the Prophet of Allah Ta’ala!

Anyway, we were talking about Imam Shaafi’ee (Rahmatullahi-alaihi); the first question he was faced with was

Page 19: An Noor, April 2014

April 2014 Jamadi’uth Thani 1435 21

that of eating all the food.

The daughters also had a second complaint: “What had laid out a prayer mat and placed water for ablution in his room. In the morning, we found that both the prayer mat and water remained untouched. It seems that he did not even pray Tahajjud”.

Furthermore, since there is no facility for ablution in the Masjid, people perform wuzu in their homes before leaving for the Masjid. Your guest just got up and left for the Masjid with you; we do not know how he performed his prayers without wuzu!”

Imam Shaafi’ee’s (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) reply

Imam Shaafi’ee (Rahmatullahi-alaihi) replied, “Truth of the matter is that when I began eating, there was so much Noor in the food that with every mouthful I took, I experienced my chest filling with Noor. I thought to myself that, “I may never get to taste food from such pure, Halaal earnings again; why don’t make it part of my body? This is why is ate all the food, and made it part of me.”

Allahu-Akbar!!

He then said, “I then lay down, but the Noor of the food was so much, that I could not get any sleep. I, therefore, began reflecting over some Ahadith. One hadith had been troubling me for some time:

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) told a small boy whose pet bird had died,

Page 20: An Noor, April 2014

April 2014 Jamadi’uth Thani 1435 22

Therefore, I began concentrating on the meaning of these few words. As a result, I managed to solve forty Fiqh Masaai’l issues related to these words. After this, since my wuzu was still intact, I got up and prayed the Fajr-Salah with the same wuzu.

This was the state of our pious predecessors.

Therefore, the first step is to gain Ilm, and the second is to act upon that Ilm. However, it does not end here; there is a further step, which is the development of Ikhlaas (sincerity).

The importance of sincerity

A deficit in Ilm can be made up by actions, and deficit in actions can be made up by sincerity. However, a deficiency in sincerity cannot be made up for. One needs to perform one’s actions solely for the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala, this is what will be sufficient. Allah Ta’ala accepts the deeds of the person who acts upon his Ilm for Allah Ta’ala’s sake only. The scholars of Deoband were granted total acceptance throughout the world because of their Ikhlaas.

The clean, pure deed of an Aalim is brighter than that of a mere worship

Where else would the eyes behold such a Taj Mahal of Ikhlaas?

(To be Concluded, Insha-Allah)

Courage and bravery

Sayyidna Hazrat Umar (Raziyallahu-Anhu) sent four hundred dinaars to Sayyidna Hazrat Abu Ubaydah (Raziyallahu-Anhu) and instructed the carrier to see what he would do with the money. Sayyidna Hazrat Abu Ubaydah (Raziyallahu-Anhu) made Du’aa for the sender. Then he immediately bestowed small amounts of the grant on various people. He kept nothing for himself. Sayyidna Hazrat Umar (Raziyallahu-Anhu) then sent a similar amount to Sayyidna Hazrat Mu’aaz (Raziyallahu-

Anhu). He gave similar instructions to the slave who carried the amount to observe how the grant was used. Sayyidna Hazrat Mu’aaz (Raziyallahu-Anhu) did the same as Sayyidna Hazrat Abu Ubaydah (Raziyallahu-Anhu) was already done. His wife lamented, “We are also poor! Give some to us too.” Only two dinars were left. Sayyidna Hazrat Mu’aaz (Raziyallahu-Anhu) threw them towards her. When the slave reported the story to Sayyidna Hazrat Umar (Raziyallahu-Anhu) he said, “They are all brothers to each other.”

In the times of Sayyidna Hazrat Umar (Raziyallahu-

Anhu) there was a severe famine. A carvaan made up of a thousand camels belonging to Sayyidna Hazrat Uthmaan (Raziyallahu-Anhu) arrived from Shaam (Syria). Several merchants offered to buy all of it. He asked them what profit they would pay. “Five per cent,” they said. He answered that he could get higher profit than that. They began to argue with him, saying that they did not know of any merchant who would offer him more than their quote. He said to them, “I know of one who repays a profit of more than seven hundred to a dirham.” He then recited the verse of the Noble Qur’an in which Allah Ta’ala mentioned this profit.1 “O traders! Bear witness with me that I donate all this to the poor people of Madinah Munawwarah!”

Whenever Sayyidna Hazrat Salamah bin Dinar visited Sayyidna Hazrat Mu’aawiyah (Raziyallahu-Anhu) he would call out: “O employee, Assalamu-Alaikum!” People advised him that to correct himself, saying, “O Hazrat Mu’aawiyah! You are the employee of this Ummah.” Sayyidna Hazrat Abu Hazim (Raziyallahu-Anhu) would talk to Khalifah Sulaymaan bin Abdulmalik in a similar outspoken manner.

Respecting the rights of others

To care for the rights of society is a necessary part of Islam’s excellent psychological principles. The psychological principles are inner motivating forces while the consideration of the rights of others are the

1 Tabraa-nii

Page 23: An Noor, April 2014

apparent consequences. The former may be described as the spirit and the later as the body. Teach children to respect the rights of their parents, elders, relatives, neighbours, teachers and companions.

The rights of parents

Parents have important rights. This must be explained to children. It is their privilege that their children treat them with civility, obey them, serve them and treat them well. Teach them the ahadith which state the rights of parents. Some of these ahadith are stated here.

Sayyidna Hazrat Aa’ishah (Raziyallahu-Anha) said, “A person comes to the Noble Rasul (Sallallahu-Alaihi-

Wasallam). With him was an old man. He asked the person, ‘who is this with you?’ The person replied, ‘My Father.’ He said, ‘Do not walk in front of him; do not sit before he sits; do not address him by his name; do not cause him to swear.’1

The pleasure of Allah Ta’ala lies in the pleasure of parents

The doors of Jannah are open for those who take care in the way they treat their parents. If the parents are displeased, then Allah Ta’ala, the Exalted, is displeased too. Allah Ta’ala will remain displeased as long as amends are not made.2 (To be continued, Insha-Allah) 1 Majma-uz Zawaaid 2 Bukhari

Letters to the Editor Shock and outrage

Dear Editor, Apropos “Shock and outrage” AN-NOOR, February

2014 by Muhtaram Fayyaz Ahmad Zaroo Sahib. After reading this thoughtful editorial, I am anxious about such thousands of boys and girls of our community who are enrolled at so many private schools running across the Kashmir valley, and maximum of them are being taught there bad stuff in the name of Islam. Thanks a lot for raising awareness of the dangers of such distorted and insolent series of books authored by Miss Safia Iqbal.

AN-NOOR is the only Islamic journal of the J&K state which is so vigilant that any conspiracy to damage or distort Islamic principles and ethics is being exposed before its launch. The great efforts by the esteemed Editor-in-chief of AN-NOOR, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Sahib Qasmi Daamat-Barakatuhum, to thwart the onslaught of enemies of Islam is truly appreciated. I appeal to all the respected readers of AN-NOOR to introduce this beneficial journal to more and more people and by doing so they would establish Sadaqah-e-Jaariyah for themselves. Stunning News

Dear Editor, Apropos “Shock and outrage” AN-NOOR, February 2014. We were stunned by the said editorial. Depicting the Holy Prophet Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam, other Messengers of Allah Ta’ala and the noble Companions in a visual way is highly offensive to each and every Muslim of the world, and Miss

Page 28: An Noor, April 2014

Safia Iqbal had committed serious offence by authoring this insolent book. The said editorial is carrying an important message for the whole Muslim world that they should take great care of their children to watch what kind of books they are being taught at their schools in the name of Islam, and what kind of extra-curricular activities they are being involved in the name of sports and entertainment. A lot of thanks to the esteemed Editor-in-chief of AN-NOOR for publishing such a knowledgeable, reformative, spiritual and worthy journal. May Allah Almighty reward them in this world and in the Hereafter, Aameen. F. Akram Eidgah Srinagar.

Khanqah-Majlis Do not wish to be very wealthy

Ask for Barakah in Maal, give Sadaqah regularly

In the last week of February 2014, the monthly Khanqah-Majlis was held at Khanqah-e-Mahmoodiyyah of Darul-Uloom Raheemiyyah Bandipora. A large gathering of Saalikeen was present in the Majlis. The spiritual Master-cum-esteemed rector of Darul-Uloom Raheemiyyah Bandipora, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Sahib Qasmi Daamat-Fuyoozuhum, discoursed on the merits and demerits of wealth: Maal and advised the gathering that a true Muslim should not wish to be very wealthy as handling of wealth as per the Islamic principles is very difficult. Hazrat Maulana Sahib narrated the tragedy of a notorious man, Tha’labah, who pestered the Holy Prophet Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam for praying to Allah Ta’ala to bestow him wealth. After the pray by the Holy Prophet Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam, he became rich. But he proved himself unable to

Page 30: An Noor, April 2014

spend the bestowed wealth as per the Islamic principles, and hence his end was very bad. “Ask Allah Ta’ala for Barakah in Maal and give Sadaqah regularly,” Hazrat advised. Hazrat further advised that one should spend from the good things for the good pleasure of Allah Ta’ala. The Majlis was concluded with Du’aa.
