RESEARCH

Highlights:

Launched in Philadelphia in the US in 1992, Anthropolo-gie opened its first international stores in 2009 in Canada and the UK. As of January 2011 the company operates a portfolio of 153 stores, two e-commerce sites and two cat-alogs for its 28-45 female target market.

Anthropologie offers women’s clothing, accessories and footwear, homeware and gifts. Each store’s product mix comprises one off items that have been sourced interna-tionally, designer ranges, vintage products and own-brand labels. The company regularly diversifies it product portfo-lio and has recently launched a bridal wear range.

The company operates stores in specialty retail centers, upscale street locations, and enclosed malls. Each Anthro-pologie store employs a team of artists to create innovative displays. Although each outlet is unique, Anthropologie unifies its store portfolio by ensuring a vintage feel and through the use of scent and sound.

He was building the small scale model forMarigold Green theme, which is a sculpturalCactus, and the real plan will be over 5 feets tall.

Th e process was going quite pretty good in the couple days. But when seperate pieces are about to connect together, the stand couldn’thold the entire weight of catus’ leaves.

We ended up stop the process and change our direction. Th e next day (March-2nd) I was assigned to sew couple 3 feet tall cacti from canvas.

Elliot. Th ese two girls are twin but their personalities are diff erent.

Colin, sketched out the hexangon lamp shade for that concept. He started out with 6 layers of hexagon structure on top of each other,

but decrease into 4 layers due to the heaviness.

What did you learn???

Wheatpaste

Wheat paste has been used for hundreds of years as a type of adhesive made from a combination of vegetable starch and water. It has many uses from adhering paper to walls, for papier-mâché and decoupage crafts, and for book binding.

Step 1: Assemble the materials. You will need flour, sugar, and water, in the quantities outlined following.

Step 2: Boil 1 cup of water. Pour the cup of water into a saucepan and bring to a boil over heat.

Page 17: Anthropologie Intern

Step 3: Put 3 tablespoons of flour into a bowl, add 10 teaspoons of water until it forms a runny mix.

Step4: Once the water has boiled, add the runny mix to the boiling water. Stir well.

Step5: Keep stirring. The mixture will foam up while it boils, so the constant stirring is essential to keep it from bubbling over. Keep the mix boiling for 2 minutes.

Step6: Take the boiled mix off the heat. Add 4 tablespoons or more of sugar.

Eva and Elliot installation adds a strong touch on the right side of the store. People can peak inside to be amazed

by the thick layers of bundles. These bundles have been dyed with 3 shades of blues, cut and string them together.

Window Display

In honor of Earth Day, Anthropolo-gie is channeling the beauty of jel-lyfish, octopi, sea stars, and other ocean creatures to create dream-

like depictions of sea life. With cor-al reefs housing a variety of ocean

creatures, it’s alarming to think about their dooming fate.

OUTCOME EXPERIENCE

Within three months, I have gained a lot of experi-ence in constructing large scale objects. Colin pro-vided a detail descriptions on every subjects, which covers technical skills and safety rules. I already know a little bit on tools and materials but this op-portunity expands my knowledge more. For exam-ples, nailguns, jig saw, chop saw, wheatpaste etc.

Besides learning from the practicing, I also learnt from mistakes. We faced several unexpected dif-ficulties, which came from miscalculation, weight and scale consideration or from different materials could brought to different results. It was frustrated but in the end it worthed more than anything after overcome the hardships to get things complete.

I found another aspect that I can pursuit for my fu-ture career.
