From the ancient, many scientists had classified lots of elements but it was not systhematic and related to each others.

There is no common methods that connected to each others.

Till the systematic periodic table had been discovered by the French scientist.

Antoine LavoiserBorn in Paris, France in 1743.

His Father was Jean-Antoine Lavoiser which worked French parliamentary counsel. His mother was Émilie Punctis ,who mother was the daughter of a wealthy attorney

Antoine Lavoiser was raised by his father and his maternal aunt, Constance Punctis after the death of his mother when he was 5 years old.

EducationHe started his early formal education by studying law and literature.

He turned to learn science when he was in college.

In the last two years in the college, he got interested in scientific method and decided to studied chemistry.

Contribution to Social and ScienceHe developed the first geological map of France and the main water supply.

He did a lot of experiments and succeeded to prove the theory that he stated out.

He always discuss the experiments that he did with his college’s friend.

Contribution on Periodic TableHe started to investigate the elements

He had stated that element is an simple substance that cannot be seperated it to the simplest.

Family and CareerMarried to Marie-Anne Pierette Paulze.

Her wife’s job was translating works of English and German scientists into French.

The couple published the first comprehensive book on chemistry.

Become a chemist, biologist, aristocrat, and tax-collector.Honored as “Father of Modern Chemistry”

Making a Periodic TableHe started to make his element’s theory by

discovering & investigating natural substances.

He concluded and defined that element is a substance that cannot be separated and it is the simplest.

From the substance found, he determined lots of element.

Processing a periodic table

He drew up a list up of elements after he had proved his element’s theory.

He classified the metals and non-metals’ elements into classification table with four groups.

Page 14: Antoine lavoisierby cy khang

He was the first to classify metal and non-metal as elements in 1789.

Elastic Fluid (G1)

Non metal (G2)

Metal (G3) Earth(G4)

Light Sulfur Cobalt Lime

Heat Phosphorus Copper Magnesia

Oxygen Carbon Gold Barita

Hydrogen Hydrochloric acid

Platinum Alumina

Nitrogen Hydrofluoric acid

Zinc Silica

Boric acid Mercury

Iron

Failure in making Periodic TableAntoine’s Classification Table is not accepted by other scientists, because-

Some substances in the table are non-elements:- Light, Heat.

Some substances are compound:-silica, magnesia, chalk, barita(baryta).

Contribution of Antoine’s Periodic Table

His periodic table helped to understand and remember the properties of elements easily.

Other scientists began to discover more elements from the other natural substance.

They developed the periodic table nowadays more systematically.

Death of Antoine Lavoisier

He was arrested and accused for selling watered-down tobacco.Actually, his real crime was holding an high position in a private tax company FermeGénérale, and misused it to charge other people’s taxes. His position was imposed by the other company’s members. He also was an aristocratic committee for maintaining expense in life.

He had become the French’s ENEMY.

Page 18: Antoine lavoisierby cy khang

He was judged by the revolutionary judge that he was no more a scientist.

He was sentenced to death (beheaded) in the parade of Paris, France in May 1794.

Aftermath The other cause to put him death is his enemy:-Jean-Paul Marat, chief of The Reign of Terror.

Marat wanted becoming the member Academy of Science, but his essay was criticized by Antoine –writing nothing.

Marat tried to pursue Antoine to admit him but in vain. He felt furious.

He found the chance to revenge when Lavoisier arrested by portrayed he had bled white the poor.

Although he is accused and harmed by them, he had contribute lots of science knowledge that we use until today.

We should thank for his contribution on chemistry.
