Have you looked in the mirror lately? our stewardship Committee has placed mirrors around the church facilities with the words “give with Purpose” on them. these mirrors and other signs around the building are pointing us to a special offering that will be received on May 5. We are calling it “give with Purpose” sunday. since we are talking about god’s transformation during our worship services, our stewardship Committee crafted these words to explain the special offering: “Because our hearts and lives are being changed, we give with purpose, believing that god can use our gifts to bring others to the saving knowledge of His transforming love.”
the give with Purpose offering will be in support of the ministry and missions of our church. Each year about this time we have such a special offering. You may use this offering as a chance to catch up on your giving if you have fallen behind. it may be that you have been financially blessed beyond what you expected, and you can offer an extra gift to the Lord in gratitude for your abundant blessings. Finally, you may have never tried tithing – this might be a good opportunity for you to do that and take the first step on the way to giving 10% of your income to god.
i invite you to “give with Purpose” on May 5. of course we receive an offering every sunday, but occasionally we need a special day to remind us to join our hearts, hands, and gifts in gratitude and obedience to god. i encourage your generous participation in this special offering. the process is very simple. We will not provide special offering envelopes, you will not receive any letters in the mail about this, and there is not a series of stewardship sermons in preparation for this day. We are all simply going to look in the mirror and consider the stewardship response that we will offer to god. some of the signs around the building remind us that Purpose can be an acrostic for – Prayer, Unity, Rejoicing, Praise, Obedience, Sacrifice, Expectancy. if we approach our offering on May 5 with each of these qualities, we will truly “give with Purpose.”

Lucas Couple Honored An enlarged version of a handmade blanket was presented to Evelyn Lucas last week. this blanket was patterned after the hundred of such wraps that were made by Evelyn and others, presented to new mothers over the past 60-plus years as a part of the Cradle Roll Ministry. A small delegation of FBC members in a home-visit presented the special personal blanket. It had been signed by 400 to 500 First Baptist members, signifying appreciation for a lifetime of work advancing the cause of Christ and His church. An extended article detailing the remarkable six decades of service of both Evelyn and Jack Lucas - she in the Cradle roll department of the sunday school, and he as the ever-present and ever-resourceful head of church-wide audio/visual activities - is in preparation. Watch for it!

thank you First Baptist for serving in so many ways on Saturday, April 13. there were many wonderful stories of how the community was touched. thank you to each of the project leaders. their leadership in all the project areas made the day proceed smoothly. the serving the City lead team consisted of Ann Gattis, Mike Soutullo, and Pat Lewallen. they spent many hours planning, enlisting, coordinating, and working out all the details of the service day. Be sure
to give them a pat on the back for a job well done.
one new project this year that was very successful was the First Baptist Church Boy Scout Troop # 70. They stood in front of several local grocery stores and accepted donations for Huntsville Assistance Program. gayla Kidd, HAP Director, said it was the largest single donation of food of any group in the history of HAP - over 2000 items! Way to go, Troop 70!
