“Jelly Roll Jam”. Designed and taught by textile artist Eileen Uchima, exclusively for our program, the project is a sampler-style quilt using the popular 2-1/2" pre-cut strip bundles known as "Jelly Rolls". Each month, participants will receive patterns and demonstrations of techniques used in one of the blocks. Members will then complete their own blocks at home, bringing them back for a show-and-tell at the next months’ class. PLUS: as an added bonus, each month you will receive a layout for another quilt featuring the current block. Come every month and you will have patterns to construct eight...or even more...quilts!

Project Next Generation:Noise Club - Library DJ(Ages 10 - 18 & adult mentors)Monday, April 16, 23, 30 • 4-4:45 pmMonday, May 7, 14, 21 • 4-4:45 pmCreate your own Synth Spin Table using household items and the Synth Circuitry kits. Learn about sound, pitch, frequen-cy, and amplitude as well as basic circuitry. Create different sound generat-ing circuits including: echos and delays, pitch sweeps, and frequency modula-tion. Sounds will be recorded using a H2N Zoom Handy Recorder. Programs will be run by staff members and com-munity members.

Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).

If you would like to be a mentor to our youth, please ask for more information at the Youth Services Desk. Our previous grants have earned EXEMPLARY status, meaning that our library is serving as a model for other libraries in the state of Illinois.

Teen Homework Center (Grades 6-12)Are you a teen working on a homework assignment at the library and you realize that you forgot glue, notecards, con-struction paper, or various other supplies needed. Don’t worry! The library has the supplies ready for you to use on our Teen Homework Cart. We also have coloring books, puzzle books, card games, board games, Legos, and the Wii available for use. Make the library your after school destination!

Come to the library to create a roomy, custom drawstring bag to take on the go and never leave any of your things behind. We will use a variety of denim prints (floral, camouflage, paisley) to appeal to everyone. All materials will be provided. Please plan to attend all four sessions.

Mother’s Day Snack andCraft Evening(Age 5 - Grade 12)Monday, May 14 • 7-8pmChildren age five and older, bring your mom or another special person in your life, to the library for a fun filled eve-ning. Decorate a wood photo block with four of your own photos. Then enjoy some light refreshments. Registration is required and is limited to the first 36 pairs that register. Please register the child’s name and indicate that they will be bringing one guest. Please bring 4 photos for the craft.

Volunteen Hours(Teens - Grades 6 - 12)We are switching it up a bit here at the library! Instead of having a Teen Tues-day program each Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., we are trying something new! Due to popular requests we will now be offering Volunteen hours during the school year on Tuesday evenings from 5:00-8:00 p.m. During your Volunteen time, you will be helping prepare crafts, work with chil-dren during our Tuesday evening special programs, and use a digital camera to take pictures. To be a Volunteen, visit the library and fill out the application.
