  • Egypt is officially known as the Arab Republic of Egypt.

    By 2012, the population of Egypt was already over 83 million (83,688,164).

    Egypt is bordered by the Gaza Strip, Israel, Libya and Sudan as well as the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.

    The Sinai Peninsula in Egypt spans across two continents, Africa and Asia.

    Mount Catherine is the highest mountain in Egypt, standing 2,629m high (8625 ft ).

    The official language of Egypt is Arabic, but others languages such as English and French are also understood by many.

    The capital city is Cairo, which also has the largest population. Other major cities include Alexandria and Giza.

    Egypt is a very dry country. The Sahara and Libyan Desert make up most of the area of Egypt.

    Egypt experiences natural hazards such as droughts, earthquakes, flash floods, landslides, windstorms (called khamsin), dust storms and sandstorms.

    The longest river in the world, the Nile, runs through Egypt.

    Egypt is famous for its ancient civilization, the Ancient Egyptians, who date back to around 3150 B.C.

    Egypt is home the Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

  • 1.Most of Egypt is desert and so it is too hot and dry to grow crops or raise animals there.

    2.People first came to live beside the Nile over 200,000 years ago.

    3.They hunted the birds and the animals that lived in the swamps.

    4.As the centuries went by they learned to grow crops .

    5.Every year the River Nile flooded and spread mud over their land.

    6.The mud brought nutrients to the soil and helped things to grow.

    7.They produced so much food that some of the people did not need to be farmers.

    8. They learnt new skills, like building, art and writing .

    Read Me: There are big dangerous crocodiles in the River Nile. Crocodiles prey on many animals such as, antelopes, zebras, giraffes.

    Task : Can we create a food chain that included a crocodile

    Extension: Can we create another food chain that includes a different predator?

    Read Me: Egypt is a hot country and there is not much rain. The river Nile provides a fertile Oasis in the middle of great deserts an allowed Egyptians to grow crops.
