installs, full featured administration, some problems with downtime, easy webmail access
• Go Daddy – super cheap, but hard to use• Media Temple – pricey but dependable, lots
of features, the good stuff• Green Hosting, or Solar and Wind Powered –

Free hosting
• xtreemhost.com – free, PHP enabled• T35.com – PHP enabled, unlimited
space, minimal ads• Tripod – ad-based• Bravenet.com – lots of built-in features,
annoying ads• Your ISP – Internet Service Providers,
such as ATT, offer this with your DSL. You may already be paying for this.

How do I host a real domain name at home?
Specialized hosting
• Blogs: blogger, wordpress.com, livejournal.com, typepad.com

Buying a Domain Name
• Most hosting companies register domain names for added cost, around $9.99 or as low as $6.99
• Godaddy.com and NetworkSolutions.com offer cheap registration.
• If you choose to register a domain with a company other than your hosting company, you must add the DNS addresses for your hosting company at your registration company.
FTP: File Transfer Protocol
• Other programs: WS_FTP, FileZilla, Fetch, Transmit
• Commonly used as a noun and verb. • Host Directory refers to the location on the
server. • FTP can also be used to share files
anonymously. o See Internet Archive, many media files available
directly through FTP. You don’t have to do everything through a Web browser.

• Images that will be used throughout your site will be taken from your page comps
• Turn off background layers• Use marquee selection and transform
selection• Crop or copy and paste into a new
document
SSI for Templates
• If you know your server is running Apache (most likely it is), you can use SSI to include common items on every page.

into a new folder within your site files called Templates
• Create areas which can be edited by highlighting placeholder contentoGo to Insert > Template Objects > Editable

• To begin using this template, open the Assets panel and click the Templates button
• If you don’t see your template, click the refresh button at the bottom of the panel
• To create a new page using this template, right-click on the file in the Assets panel and choose New from Template
Creating Library Items
• To add a new item to the Library:o Click the Library button in the Assets panelo Select some text in a page or template, such as
the text in the footero Click the New Library Item button (bottom of the
Assets panel)o Name your library item
• Library items are highlighted in yellow• To use your new library item, drag and drop it
onto any page
