Artist Research Looking at artists work and discovering new ideas and exploring concepts of others work

I decided to research some more typography artists, as I felt I needed to widen my approach to this course, and look at even more techniques, and beyond things I would think off InitiallyTypoplastic Surgeries by Oded Ezer (Image Above) Oded Ezer, a typograpic artist, logo and type designer, is also a lecturer and a typograhic experimentalist. His studio is located in Israel.

The Artist, who created this image above,Oded Ezer stretches and blurs the boundaries of typographic illustration, integrating science to create bizarre works like his ‘Typographic Surgeries’. Oded literally attached letters to his own body and face, saying “The connection is between the letters to the face, kind of an evolution of both. I began the process in a graphical manner, but then I tried to implement it physically. So this augmentation, deformation of the body, the revelation of its typographical perspective is what turns me. I decided to look Oded Ezer because I wanted to look at typographic designer who looked at designs based upon, typeface and illustration and being creative with words.

Above are some designs also by Oded Ezer I decided to look at these ones because the used concepts of typography I could accomplish without the need to use Photoshop and explore different creative art techniques using paper craft.

Typographic Skin Condition by David Tucker

Not many illustrators like David Tucker – except maybe Oded Ezer – would go so far as to scratch words onto their skin, turning their bodies into a painful canvas. ‘Typographic Skin Condition’ by David Tucker is more than just a masochistic sort of temporary inkless tattoo – it’s a combination of performance art, photography and a love for type. These two extrodinary artists really inspire me. The concept and psycology and going to such an extremes as to think about self harm, and streching somebodys skin, link into my themes as they could link into bullying.

Heart by Yulia Brodskaya Yulia Brodskaya was born in Moscow Russia; prior to moving to the Uk in 2004 she was interested in diverse creative practices ranging from Textile Painting, Origami and Collage traditional Fine Art practices. Following an MA in Graphic Communication in 2006 at the university of Hertfordshire she continued to experiment and explore ways of bringing together all the things she likes most; typograpy, paper, and highly detailed hand made craft objects. She has swiftly earned an international reputation for her innovative paper illustrations and contiunes to create beautifully detailed paper designs for clients around the world

Artist Yulia Brodskaya combines typography with a technique known as papercraft art and to create three-dimensional designs that really pop. Brodskaya, a Russian artist living in the UK, sought to bring together her love for the two separate art forms and has done so beautifully, with a style unlike any other. I decided to research this idea, as I felt that I needed a slightly more creative responses, and the idea of using paper craft to create and generate ideas was initially a good idea, I decided not to do this however as this was very time consuming, and the outcome effects may not turn out as well as this, having no experience in paper craft. I looked at the different aspects Yulia Brodskaya uses as well as the materials she uses and techniques of paper-craft I also liked the way her composition worked through out the minimalism of the lines in her designs similarly to Michelle Thompson’s work.

I have choosen to link her work to Michelle Thompsons because in looking at the artists work closely I can compare that they both have similar concepts of compostion. Both artists I feel would impact on my final outcome when creating my poster design for my beat bullying campaign advertisement. As well as being influential as they would help me to create strong compositions by putting together a range of ideas and images. I like the way both Yulia and Michelle Thompson combine the contrast of bold contemporary colours using the black and white colour scheme or using primary bright colours to add emphasize to their designs. I have choose this typographic/ allegorical piece of Michelle Thompson’s as not only does it relate to the artist of Yulia, by showing strong bold colour schemes and strong composition but because both artists use different techniques to create this look and Michelle Thompson looks at collaging techniques, as this is another aspect of creating idea’s I could look at.
