A tool used to separate white light into different colors is a
prism.

Light rays bend as they pass from one material to another.

Light travels more slowly through denser materials.

A lens that bends light outward, making objects look smaller, is called a concave lens. A lens
that bend light toward its center, making objects look bigger, is
called a convex lens.

Reflection occurs when light strikes and then bounces off a
surface. Smooth, shiny surfaces, such as mirrors, reflect
the most light.

The law of reflection involves two light rays; the incoming ray and the outgoing ray. The angels of
both rays are equal.

Opaque material blocks light, transparent material allows light to pass through, and translucent
material allows some light to pass through but scatters it in
different directions.

Dark colored clothing absorbs most of the light that falls on them, while light colored clothing reflects most of the light. Wearing dark colored
clothing makes a person feel hotter in the summer.
Exit QuestionWhy do you think you should avoid
wearing black clothing on a hot, sunny day?
