S ince the inception of our Foundation in 1944, we have provided promising students an opportunity to enter the Naval Academy via our preparatory school program. Our program has sponsored more than 3,800 deserving candidates to the Naval Academy over the years and today we have 250 Foundation students within the Brigade of Midshipmen. Equally important, and in consonance with our mission to maintain and enhance the Academy’s Athletic Excellence (AE), we provide critical financial support to all Physical Mission areas—club, intramural and varsity athletic programs. We also support athletic programs at the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, RI. Our Foundation, which includes Trustees, emeriti, friends and Foundation parents, was an integral part of the last $250-million-plus comprehensive campaign to support the U.S. Naval Academy. In fact, our small group alone contributed more than $41 million towards the campaign goal, thereby continuing our tradition of relevance and responsiveness to the Academy. To preserve this tradition of support, a Fund for Athletic Excellence was established. Athletic Excellence is now our primary fundraising focus; it’s the lifeblood of the organization. We ask all our Trustees to support this important program. Most classes have now included the Athletic Excellence fund as part of their ongoing class fundraising projects and Trustees are including AE in their estate plans. It’s a group effort! recently, you have seen the extraordinarytransformation that has taken place atthe Navy-Marine Corps MemorialStadium. It’s now recognized as themost beautiful mid-sized collegefootball stadium in the country!More importantly, it is a fittingmemorial to the sacrifice made by our Navy and Marine Corpspersonnel who have participated in each of our nation’s wars andcontinue today in the global war onterror. Several new suites, recruitingareas, new scoreboard and televisionfacilities have been added for the2014 football season. Our athleticdepartment headquarters, RickettsHall, will soon be undergoing amajor renovation and expansion. These projects greatly enhance ourworld-class athletic facilities. OurMidshipmen student-athletes deserve nothing less.

Again, our Foundation’s purposeis to respond to the needs of theSuperintendent. We have achievedthat by increasing our financialsupport for Navy athletic programsover the past several years. There are new recognition levels (FleetClub—$5,000/yr; Rip Miller—$15,000/yr; and Friends of NavyAthletics—$25,000/yr x 5 years)for those Trustees, parents and friendswho support Athletic Excellence. Wehave also increased the amount oftuition assistance for each of our prepschool students. Finally, our Trusteeshave stepped up and are involved in a wide range of volunteer projects toassist Navy athletic programs andeducate our Midshipmen athletesabout the rich heritage and traditionof which they are now a part. Thispast spring, we celebrated more than70 years (1944-2014) of support tothe Naval Academy!

I had the pleasure of meetingour 62nd Superintendent, VADMTed Carter ’81, USN, to briefhim on all that we are doingcurrently and our plans toenhance support to him and theBrigade in the coming years. We’reblessed that the Navy continuesto provide men of his caliber tolead our beloved country.

Finally, I thank each of you foryour personal support. Our effortshave made a significant impact onoverall athletic excellence within theBrigade and will continue to do so in the future. We could not do itwithout you. Thank you and Go Navy!

I look forward to seeing you and working with you throughoutthe year.

This has been anotheroutstanding year for our

Athletic and Scholarship Program.I’ve really enjoyed and am privilegedto work with so many wonderfulfamilies and candidates, our ownAlumni Association and Foundation, and the staffs of the Naval Academyadmissions and athletic departments.

We held our spring and fallmeetings and each was attended bymany of our 250 active Trustees andtheir spouses. The focus at both eventswas staying relevant to the NavalAcademy and promoting the Fundfor Athletic Excellence and the prepschool program. Our spring 2014dinner banquet was especiallymemorable as we celebrated our 70th anniversary in historic DahlgrenHall. While we are doing very welloverall, we still need your help in ourmission to support both importantprograms. The information providedbelow gives you an idea of thewonderful impact we’ve had over the past year.

Athletic SupportAn important part of our mission is,of course, the Foundation’s monetarysupport to the Naval Academy andNaval Academy Athletic Associationfor varsity, club and intramural sportsprograms. Much of the renovationwork at the Navy-Marine CorpsMemorial Stadium was funded by our organization. We are alsocommitted to keeping the currentfootball coaching staff intact. WithKen Niumatalolo as Navy’s headcoach and an aggressive but realisticschedule this year, we have a greatopportunity to extend our currentrun of successful seasons and retainthe Commander-in-Chief ’s Trophy. That coaching staff stability is criticalto the success of the program.

During the past year, weprovided more than $1.6 million in private grants for recruiting, teamand coaches’ travel, trophies, teamequipment, radio broadcasting, athletic facilities and annual coachesand Midshipmen athletic awards. We

From the Executive Director

are committed to providing almost$2.0 million during the upcomingyear to not just the major sports butall varsity, club and intramural teamsat the Naval Academy.

In just the last several years, ourunique organization has contributedsignificantly to the Naval Academy,
