I love music. When I am in my vehicle, music is always playing. And the music is varied. If you read this column regularly you know that my knowledge and education in music was largely due to the subscription to Rolling Stone that I enjoyed for 30 years. I would be a subscriber today but have found that more than 1 magazine subscription is too many. Unfortunately, that rule caused the end of Rolling Stone. Crochet Monthly turned out to be a life changing magazine for me and although I am not as up to date on music these days, I do have some incredible coasters. But I digress. In 1977, I got a copy of Rolling Stone with Bob Marley on the cover. The album Exodus had just come out. After reading the interview, I was driven to buy the album. I had never listened to anything like that before and instantly fell in love with reggae.
Reggae has an infectious beat, but Marley's lyrics added another element for me and I would think about the meaning far more than I would on say the Beatles’ I Want to Hold Your Hand. One line, "When the rain fall it don't fall on one man's housetop" has always been one of my favourite lyrics. So simple, but it says so much, at least to me. Exodus was the album that put Bob Marley into the spotlight. It has more tracks on Marley's greatest hits album Legend (the highest selling reggae album of all time) than any of his other albums. I'm glad that I discovered him while he was alive and realize the influence he had on me and on music in general. He died about 5 months after John Lennon. That was a sad time for me.
Be safe this summer. It's a great time for reading or crafts. Personally, I have a couple of crochet hooks calling my name so I’m off to make either a sweater or a pot holder.

ROCK N ROLL TRIVIA 1. Opening on June 14th 1971, London had the first Hard
Rock Cafe in the world. It has a free to enter museum featuring over 200 pieces of Rock ‘n’ Roll memorabilia

2. Singer songwriter Harry Nilsson owned the London flat that Mama Cass and Keith Moon both died in. Both tragic
rock stars were aged 32 at the time.
3. Jimi Hendrix was delighted to find out who used to live in the house next door in Brook Street, none other than the
classical composer George Frederick Handel. So impressed was the guitar legend he went out and bought recordings of

The Hell's Gate Blues Band was formed in 2012 as a result of the members finding a common passion for the Blues. The band plays original material, as well as covering great Blues artists such as Etta James, Susan Tedeschi, Jonny Lang, Robben Ford, The Doors and B.B. King. Their music is high energy and the dance floor is usually full and jumping!
The Hell's Gate Blues Band consists of seven members: Lisa Dunn (Vocals), Norm Campbell (lead guitar/ vocals), Peter Selnar (harmonica), Glenn Rowley (bass/ vocals), Alan Bingley (rhythm guitar), Peter Smith (drums) and Howard Greenstein (keys).
