As mentioned in our last issue, we’ve updated our website’s homepage to facilitate inquiries about our quality music services. We’ve added a few new things to our entertainment line up this summer: Firstly, from June to August, eleven09 will be hosting an Industry Night every Tuesday at West Beach in White Rock. Led by Nathan Tapsas, Tuesdays will be a rocking weekly event dedicated to all entertainment venue staff in the Surrey / White Rock neighbourhood, from restaurants, bars, cafes and clubs. Secondly, please help us welcome our newest venue partner, The Baron’s Manor Pub in Port Kells, Surrey! Visit them online and follow them on Facebook!

SPECIAL FEATURE: CALPURNIA
20 years ago I moved to Vancouver. I grew up in Calgary and worked and lived all over Alberta. But I made it out to the West Coast at least once every year from the age of 20. Eventually I moved out to Vancouver and accepted a job as the Service Manager of a car dealership. Tough job, but I really did like getting a new car to drive every 6 months. I still remember the first demo I got. I was told to just pick a car off the lot. I thought it best not to greedily grab the Corvette but instead chose a bright red Camaro convertible. I remember thinking as I wandered around the lot, "How cool is this? If someone had told me that one day I could walk through a car lot and pick whatever I wanted, I would have considered it a dream come true." Turns out it takes more than a new car to make dreams come true.
Anyway, once I even ordered a Camaro SS from the factory as my demo. All the frills including a six stack CD player in the trunk. Maybe the best car was the Monte Carlo SS. Nicest highway car I probably ever had. And again with the great stereo. One afternoon trip driving down from Kamloops, I finally discovered Van Morrison. But as happens in life, things change. Life can be very humbling.
For the last dozen years, I have driven many crappy cars. But a week ago, I bought a fairly new truck. And as much as I had told myself that, because I had driven so many cars over the years, I no longer needed a fancy new ride to complete me, I was wrong. I am completed. My last car was pretty basic. And the stereo sucked. I don't think the back speakers worked. Having a decent sound system is evidently important to me.
I also signed up to this thing called Sirius. Satellite radio is cool. That's all I'm listening to. No need for CD's anymore. I have to go to Calgary in the next week and am so looking forward to riding in comfort and listening to great music on a good sound system. Now if I could only do something about 1.60/litre I'd be laughing.
