Welcome to June’s edition of the FP Newsletter Vol. 41, our monthly publication giving you all our music news!!
First off, we are so close to releasing a number of amazing original musical collaborations with the artists we love, namely 5 singles across different genres and a 15-song album of songs for babies and toddlers!! Please stay tuned to all our news by following us on facebook and instagram. We’re also so proud of all the amazing artists we’re working with and what they are accomplishing. Ayla Tesler-Mabe, Max Cunningham and Rhett Cunningham of the band Ludic debuted their first single, “My Love” last month and have already garnered around 200,000 global streams!! That’s incredible! FUSIONpresents and the Surrey Board of Trade continue to lead the way in bringing more quality music to Surrey through our Surrey Music City initiative, helping develop Surrey’s growing music economy and community! On June 14, the SBOT is hosting its 3rd annual Surrey Arts & Business Awards at the Civic Hotel in Surrey, showcasing Surrey's Creative Industry and recognizing individuals and businesses that are committed to enriching Surrey through the arts! FUSIONpresents will be presenting the Music Award! Attendance is free, so please join us to commemorate those creative artists working diligently to make it happen! Register here At our Surrey Music City Centre office, we continue to meet with various Surrey arts organizations, as well as artists, promoters, venues and representatives from the City of Surrey, and are developing strategies and programs to facilitate and encourage an increase in live music entertainment in the City. Ever since I was a young man, I’ve heard him play guitar, swinging his arm abruptly and crashing that whammy bar, I ain’t seen nothing like him at any music show, that bloke who scored hit Who songs, whilst his amp set to blow...........well, something like that.
Pete Townshend came out of that mid-sixties era when rock/pop music was going through some prodigious changes. He is the guitar player for the band The Who. He is also their chief composer and sometimes vocalist. I believe very few in his genre are his equals when it comes to songwriting, which might seem quite a contrast to the band’s on & off stage destructive persona. They have always been known to play LOUD, and in their early days, reckless on stage as well as in hotel rooms. I cringe now, thinking of all that beautiful equipment being destroyed but it was "performance art" as far as Pete was concerned.
I first saw the Who live at Exhibition stadium in Toronto while barely a teen. I saw them again at the same venue a few years later touring for the anniversary of their Tommy album. I found it peculiarly exciting that the crowd would go wild when Townshend swung his arm like a windmill. Showbiz antics, I reckoned. Upon last seeing the band live in 2012, I was not expecting much but was quite surprised by their powerful performance. Pete also released a number of solo albums and toured with his own band over the years.
He has authored books and scripts including his auto-biography "Who I Am”, has written many an article for magazines, along with once taking a position as a commissioning editor for the London publishing house, Faber & Faber. Pete became devoted to Indian spiritual master Meher Baba in the sixties from which references can be found in some of his writings. Partial deafness and tinnitus has affected him for some time now, due to exposure to loud music throughout his career but this has not stopped him from once again touring with The Who in 2019. Another old musical soldier still on the front line, carrying on.
