FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Each day we live and have our being, God does something awesome! Mission Month is in full swing at First Calvary and it’s full of excitement and enthusiasm! In our message today we’re going to once again examine “The Missing Link”. In James teachings, specifically for today in the second chapter, he basically says, “Don’t just profess it. Practice it!” During this Mission Month let’s “Practice our Faith”!

Please don’t forget to bring in your items for the Food Pantry Family Challenge….it’s Tuna Week…. “Shazam! Name That Tuna”! Let’s see those cans of tuna come in! Thank you for your rice, pasta, and pasta sauce donations! We are looking to collect over 100 of each item! This is a wonderful effort and a fantastic blessing for our Food Pantry. The food drives that we have within the life of this church are critical for our ongoing Emergency Food Pantry. Please help us in this Macedonia effort. Remember, Jesus said, “when you do it unto the least of these you have done it unto me”….So, let’s treat Jesus real nice.

Now as we engage ourselves in this month designated as Mission Month, it is imperative that we find our place. One of the key factors in determining where you best fit is knowing where your passions lie. Once you know your gifts and passion, you should be able to find the perfect place to do ministry. If you are not engaged in the life of this congregation, NOW Is the Time. Please take the time to share and to care for those less fortunate. Who makes the church grow? We all do. The church is never “they” or “them”. It is always “US”.

There are many ministry activities coming soon at First Calvary! Next Sunday is Mission Sunday ….but before then, we have the West End Goes Back to School Event on THIS WEDNESDAY, August 15th. Please bring your bookbag donations by TOMORROW for this effort…and thank you for giving. The Johnson C. Smith Alumni Gospel Concert on August 26th is also something to look forward to. Again, this month, we GIVE…so don’t forget your Pantry donations…your bookbags…AND your items for the ACT Ministry project. You see, First Calvary, our life as a congregation is busy but we still have time to give Him the glory, because we are “AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION”!

DON’T FORGET….. Bring your Food Pantry donations this month!

This Week: “Shazam! Name That Tuna”!

(Bring cans of tuna)

Help us reach the weekly “Food Pantry Challenge”

goal of 100 items each week!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS

THUS FAR THIS MONTH!

(Collection boxes are now at the Food Pantry area, near the Church Office and in the Vestibule. See insert for more details.)

THE DEACON’S MESSAGE

An exercise in faithfulness is exhibited every day when we go to work and do a good job. Every good and perfect gift comes from God; and, whether we want to believe or not, our jobs fall into that same category. Each day that we go to work is an opportunity to help fulfill the ministry of Christ in countless ways. Work is a mission field unlike home or the sacred halls of the church. Paul in his letter to the church at Colosse gives firm instructions on how we are to work for our employers. “Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.” (Colossians 3:22-25, The Message) God will bless us when we do our best for Him in everything we do, including the jobs we go to for eight to ten hours a day.
