FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

MERRY CHRISTMAS! We are celebrating in Worship today….taking a

break from the gifts and toys and putting our good eating on hold to

give Praise to our Born Savior…for HE DESERVES IT!

My Hallelujah…and your Hallelujah belong To HIM! It

is important that we remember why this season is

so important. Were it not for the sacrifice of our Savior, our existence would be

for naught. If it were not for His birth we would not have a Savior! Christ is the ultimate example of service….that’s what it’s all about. Even as we celebrate with family and friends, there is still room for service. What can you do to serve more as the New Year approaches? I encourage each of you to serve inside and outside of the church walls. Enjoy the days off, the gift-giving, the food, the music…but don’t forget the TRUE meaning of “CHRIST-mas” for the believer. Tomorrow starts the Kwanzaa Celebration as well. Saturday, January 31st, we will hold Watchnight Service at 10:00 p.m. on the Kwanzaa day of “Kuumba” (Creativity) and New Year’s Day Worship at 9:30 a.m. on the Kwanzaa day of “Imani” (Faith).

There is always something going on at First Calvary in Ministry. Don’t forget that Annual Church Conference on Wednesday, January 4th at 7:00 p.m. I look forward to seeing you at this conference if you are a church officer, ministry leader or concerned member. Therefore, our next Bible Study family hour will be held on January 11th. Also, don’t forget that the Emancipation Proclamation service will be at St. Joseph AME Church on New Year’s Day at 5:00 p.m. and the Annual City-Wide Revival will be held at Union Baptist Church on January 2nd-6th, 7:00 p.m. nightly, with First Calvary serving on Tuesday, January 3rd. By the way, thank you to our Christian Education Ministry and Music Ministry for the Christmas Presentation on last Sunday…and thank you to those that joined us at the Volunteer Celebration on Wednesday. We hope you had a great time! As we worship on the last Sunday of this year, let me thank all the disciples of Jesus Christ in this body for doing the work of ministry in an excellent and exciting way.

I hope that we go throughout today and the remaining days of this year celebrating and praising God for His remarkable Gift…JESUS—and communing in that special peace! Know that we serve a Mighty God…and He calls us to serve others. Ready…? Set…? Let’s Serve…! Again, Happy “celebrating the birth of our Savior” day…and Have a great, blessed New Year! For 133 years we have been and still are AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION…and excited about Christmas!

THE DEACON’S MESSAGE

People give gifts for every occasion. Imagine if there was a gift with your name on it. You never received it because no one told you about it. What if you found out later it was the perfect gift and you needed it to make it through life? I think we would all be pretty upset because someone didn’t take the time to share the information about the gift with us. We have all been given gifts from Jesus Christ. John 14:27 (NLT) says, “I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” Jesus Christ is a gift that continues to give. He was born as a gift to us. He died and rose becoming a gift of redemption and salvation. He desires to give us the gift of peace too so we won’t worry. Jesus Christ is the perfect gift for every situation. Have you received your gift today?
