It gives me great pleasure once again to write the foreword to our newsletter covering the Autumn and Winter Season 2014/15. This is my favourite time of the year, when our gardens, together with the national parks, slowly transform into a blaze of colours and provide the perfect setting for our guests to enjoy during

their stay, and magnificent walks. The City of York becomes a pre-Christmas shopping heaven with the many markets and festivals, and all its attractions have a unique winter feel.

After celebrating our thirtieth anniversary, the forthcoming festive season gives us another opportunity to rejoice in our usual style. Nicholas Evans, our head Chef, will provide the finest fare, locally sourced, and served in our award-winning dining room, complimented by a carefully selected wine list with something for every palate.

You will find in these pages a cornucopia of events to appeal to all, and may I recommend that you reserve early to avoid disappointment.

Max is 16 years old and a Music Scholar at Harrow School. He is a very enthusiastic, passionate and talented musician, playing piano and flute. Max also attends the junior department of the Royal College of Music to which last year he won the ABRSM scholarship. In recent years Max has won many prizes in music competitions and festivals and accompanied Heath Mount School when they won BBC Choir of the Year

Having bought his first bottle of whisky at the age of eight and owning one of the largest private collections of whisky in the UK – we are sure he will entertain you in all things whisky!

Our guest speaker is Julian Kay from the Wright Wine Company in Skipton. Julian was made ‘Keeper of the Quaich’ in 2005 in recognition for his services to the Scottish Whisky Industry. His ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ of a shop boasts two rooms with over 100 whiskies.

Jean Frederic Hugel is the 25 year old son of Etienne Hugel who visited us last year. Like his father, Jean Frederic claims that he got his job simply because he has the same name as the wine!
