The distinctive characteristic about Danish broiler and egg production is the level of Salmonella, which is close to zero. This is achieved by an intensive national programme including prevention and testing all the way through the production chain from hatchery via the farmer to the slaughterhouse. Moreover, Denmark is one of the countries in the world having the lowest consumption of antibiotics.

Based on our know-how, Vilofoss offer seed calculations, production advice and guidance on farm mixing. The overall objective of our services is for the customer to achieve optimum productivity at optimum cost.

Boost your results with quality from VitfossIn November 2005, Vilofoss qualified for FAMI-QS certification. FAMI-QS is a code of practice established by the feed additive industry for feed additive and premixture operators to meet the European Regulation on Feed Hygiene (183/2005), which entered into force on 1 January 2006.

The FAMI-QS code is based on ISO, GMP and HACCP principles. Early 2007 FAMI-QS was recognized as the Community Guide to Good Practice.

Vilofoss considered it natural to apply for FAMI-QS certification as it represents a great step towards consumer’s safety under the “from farm to table” approach.

Intro

Avimix

Avimix is a range of mineral compounds for all kinds of poultry. On page 5, we present some proposals for mixing Avimix with own raw materials.

Avimix includes all required vitamins and trace minerals, and is further supplied with amino acids, calcium, phosphorus etc. in order to fulfil nutrient requirements when mixed with the farmer’s own sources of grain (e.g. corn, wheat), protein (e.g. soybean meal) and fat (e.g. soy oil).

All Avimix products are also available with extra vitamins or minerals. Besides, Avimix may include enzymes and other feed additives. Avimix can be supplemented with natural or synthetic pigmentation products to provide the requested pigmentation in eggs or skin. We also offer Avimix containing coccidiostats.

Vilofoss offers feed calculations and advice in order to tailor individual Avimix products to the specific requirements of our customers with the raw materials at hand.

Avimix products are available in bag sizes corresponding to the applicable inclusion rate and big-bags weighing approx. 500 kg and 960 kg.

Recommendations on mixing

Optimum mixing necessitates the addition of raw materials in the following order:1. Grain2. Minerals3. Other dry raw materials4. FatMake sure that the scales are in balance before the next ingredient is added.

ScalesCheck the scales of the mixer at regular intervals. Use a weight that is known to be reliable. Compare the total consumption given by the computer with the quantities of raw materials supplied.

Mixing timeDiscuss mixing time with your mixer supplier on basis of the recipes applying to your production.

FillingCheck if the mixer is overfilled with especially light raw materials. An overfilled mixer is not mixing well.

WinnowingEach mixer should have a winnowing unit of a suitable size.

CleaningSilos for feed and raw materials as well as mixer(s) should be cleaned at regular intervals.

Foot pad lesions or foot pad dermatitis is characterised by lesions on the foot pads of poultry. Severe foot pad lesions can cause pain and thereby impairing productivity.

Ammonia from the manure can induce the lesions when coming into contact with the foot pad. Evaporation of ammonia is increased with increased moisture content of the litter. Therefore, it is crucial for the farmer to control the litter. Litter quality, however, is influenced by many factors such as litter material, ventilation, heat, feed, etc. In Denmark, increased focus on animal welfare, followed by national legislation in 2002, has led to a significant decline in occurrence and severity of foot pad lesions in broiler production.

The figure below illustrates how the occurrence of foot pad lesions fluctuates with seasonal changes. In winter months, controlling air flow in connection to litter quality becomes more challenging.

Data are delivered from the national database of the KIK-system (Quality Assurance in Broiler production).

Reduce foot pad lesions with a combination of inorganic and organic zincA Danish trial with Ross 308 broilers was carried out in 2009. Foot pads were evaluated into three categories: 0 (no lesions), 1 (mild lesions), 2 (severe lesions).

A combination of inorganic and organic zinc was able to reduce the number of broilers with foot pad lesions from 70.4% to 57.8%. Interestingly, it was the occurrence of the severe foot pad lesions (score 2) that were reduced.

The results from the trial are shown in the table below.100% inorganic zinc Combination of Inorganic zinc

*Score 0 = no lesions, score 1 = mild lesions, score 2 = severe lesions. The trial was designed to achieve a high level of foot pad lesions, as it is difficult to measure differences in foot pad lesions in a pen trial.

AvimixSupplement products

In many cases, a correct feeding strategy may not be sufficient due to a variety of external factors affecting a modern poultry production. Disease pressure may be too high, leg problems may occur, stress, cannibalism, etc. therefore, we offer a wide range of different supplements for prevention and/or treatment of poultry. The liquid products are suitable when applied through the watering system. The solid products can be used as top dressing. The table below shows the range of Vilofoss supplements, which with advantage can be applied when facing different challenges in the poultry production.

AvimixSuccess E-50000/K/Selenium and Suplex E-30000 SeleniumVitamin E

Succes s E - 5 0 0 0 0/K /Se l en i um / Suplex E-30000 Selenium are concentrated products containing a combination of vitamin E and selenium. Vitamin E is of importance for reproduction and the immune system. The primary function of vitamin E is as an antioxidant, protecting the protein and lipid fraction of the living cells in the animal against oxidation. In this process, vitamin E interacts with selenium. A supplement of vitamin E is recommended to improve reproduction results, performance or to be provided in period where the animals are stressed (due to heat, vaccination etc.).

Recommended daily dosage10-20 ml per 100 litres of water / 50-200 g per 1000 birds

Micro SuplexMicro Suplex has combined all the vitamins A, D3, E, and B as well as the trace minerals manganese, iron, copper, zinc, iodine, and selenium. With this product you are able to give an extra supply of all the most important vitamins and trace minerals at once. In that way you are able to solve undefined deficiencies ensuing impaired productivity more quickly.

Recommended daily dosage500-2000 g per 1000 birds

Suplex BinderBesides the concentrated vitamin and mineral supplements, Vilofoss has compiled the mineral compound Suplex Binder.

Toxins are harmful substances with a negative impact on livestock productivity. This applies both Fusarium toxins and toxins formed during storage, e.g. Aflatoxins.

In poultry, symptoms of mycotoxicosis include impaired productivity (poor growth and feed conversion, reduced egg production, poor egg shell quality, reduced fertility), increased mortality, reduced bone strength, and carcass condemnation (bruises). The effect of mycotoxins differ between poultry species, e.g. ducks are much more sensitive to Aflatoxins than turkeys, broilers and layers.

Suplex Binder can be added with 0.2-0.4% of the feed to avoid toxins from raw materials to harm the birds. Toxin binders can also be added to the mineral feed (Avimix) to ensure a constant and correct dosage.

AvimixMicrobial and environmental control for all animal housings

Long-term efficacy with Stalosan®F

Regular use of Stalosan F in animal housings improves sanitation standards, lowers the disease level and increases both condition of life and feed conversion rate.

Due to its antimicrobial effect, Stalosan F controls bacteria, viruses, (Avian influenza virus subtype H5N1) fungi, fly-larvae and parasites, including Coccidia and roundworm. The antimicrobial effect includes E.coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Mycoplasma, Campylobacter etc.

Stalosan F has an effect on, among others, microorganisms causing diarrhoea, coccidiosis, joint infections, respiratory disorders, etc.

Stalosan F controls moisture at variable levels, where increased water pressure leads to increased water binding capacity (Stalosan®F binds water up to 4 times its own weight).

Stalosan F significantly reduces ammonia and sulphurous gases that normally would damage the mucous membranes of the animals and subsequently lower their resistance to infections. In case of disease treatment, Stalosan F improves the response to medication and reduces the risk of reinfection.

Increased stress of domestic animals due to high stocking rates, high performances, changes of feed and transport increases the risk of infections and diseases. Regular use of Stalosan F will lower the risk to a minimum.

Stalosan F is economical in use. Simply apply 50 g/m2 for 3 days, and thereafter once a week. In special cases Stalosan®F can be used more frequently.

Sprinkle Stalosan F by hand or use a blower:

● in deep litter sections● in nests● on perches● especially in moist places along edges and around drinkers and feeders

Stalosan F can be added while the animals are present.
