Unlike radiators and classical flat radiators, fan coil units not
only can heat rooms, but can also cool and ventilate them.
With 2-litre units, seasonal switch-over from heating to cooling
operations is possible, and vice-versa (by reversing the medium
supply). The 4-litre units additionally offer connections for heat-
ing and cooling circulation systems, and therefore allow spon-
taneous change-over between the modes of operation.
Fan coil units actively direct the a ir to be t reated through the
heat exchanger, with especially effective heating or cooling. They
bring room air to the desired temperature faster and operate
with smal ler heating or cooling surfaces. Their enhanced heat
transfer enables lower feed temperatures during heating, andhigher feed temperatures during cooling. This minimises losses
and saves energy between the boiler or the chiller and the final
unit.
A choice of fan speeds, as well as valves to regulate the flow vol-
ume, enable flexible control of unit output. Adjustable air-outlet
grills, in addition, assure uniform distribution of temperature-
controlled air in the room. Comfortable climate-control solution:
Heating and cooling in one unit
Assuring desired room temperature with smaller
units
Energy saving with lower feed temperatures
during heating, and with higher temperatures for
cooling
Flexible control

The basic edition of the GEA Flex fan coil unit offers
reliable technology for many applications. This starter unit
is well suited for user-friendly heating and/or cooling, and
can be combined with various accessory components.
The Comfort Edition, with its distinctive light-grey band,
can climate-control rooms in mixed-air operation as well. It
can be equipped with an additional electrical heater ifrequired. Its various air-intake and -outlet directions
guarantee flow-optimised airflow routing for all applications.
The GEA Flex fan coil units are available in the Basic and Com-
fort Editions. Both of these variations are based on the same
equipment platform, and employ this platform with various sys-
tem components. This enables numerous equipment configura-
tions.
Purity and timeless design – the Basic variation
The Basic Edition model, with modest grey-white enclosure, con-
tains high-quality technology and offers (according to version)
connections for hot and/or cold water, a three-speed fan, and an
air filter. Various valve types allow coordinated and precise heat-
ing and cooling. With its extremely user-fr iendly control system,
the GEA Flex fan coil unit is therefore the perfect starter model
for comfortable, decentral climate control of your rooms.
Greater expectations in many variations –
the Comfort Edition
The Comfort Edition of the GEA Flex offers additional functions
and more features. It enables climate control of rooms in mixed-
air operation, and treatment of the air with finer filters. According
to the requirements, Comfort units offer hot and/or cold water con-nections. They can be equipped with additional electrical heating,
and with an integrated direct evaporator – which allows a combi-
nation with outdoor split-climate units. The enclosure is designed
for various air-intake and -outlet variations, and a light-grey band
makes the unit optically even slimmer.
Installation sizes and diversity of performance
Both GEA Flex variants, Basic and Comfort, are available in 8 in-
stallation sizes with a height beginning at 504 mm, and a uni-
form depth of 240 mm. The width wi ll vary according to output,
between 840 and 1,890 mm. The 8 unit sizes allow a selection
that optimally matches the required output. The heating and
cooling output ratings lie between 1 and 20 kW*. The circulat-
ing air volume coordinated to these output ratings varies be-
tween 150 and 1,800 m³/h.

Wall and ceiling models
Comfort Edition
The Comfort Edition of GEA Flex fan coil
units satisfies requirements, for example,
in which mixed-air options are desired –
or where quiet heating and cooling are ex-
pected. They are also ideally suited for
cases in which exceptional installation sit-
uations prevail.
The many possible intake- and outlet-air
combinations, and the extremely quiet
fans, mean that Comfort Edition models
are something special. The possibility of
ordering these models with mixed-air op-
eration, and/or with electrical heating, ex-
pands their application spectrum. In ad-
dition, the great diversity of accessories
and the availability of various control
modules all mean that the Comfort Edi-
tion satisfies practically all situations.
Wall and ceiling models
Basic Edition
Already with the Basic Edition of GEA
Flex fan coil units, the most common re-
quirements for climate control of rooms
can be quietly and reliably satisfied.
These robust units are highly effective
for typical flush-mounted applications.
The Basic Edition has been designed for
heating or cooling in recirculated-air
mode. It is effective for all applications for

If requested as option, the proven GEA MATRIX control unit will
be integrated into the GEA Flex fan coil units at the factory. Your
benefit: only completely tested equipment will be supplied to
your construction site.
GEA MATRIX is available in configuration levels 500, 2000, 3000,
or 4000, with adaptation to the various possible applications. A ver-
sion can be supplied for hotel applications, for example: as well as
a Basic version for cost-optimised budgets.
Most of the versions are provided as default with the two-cable GEA
MATRIX dual-cable bus system, through which all GEA MATRIX
units can communicate with each other. As a result, it is simple to
implement daytime and nighttime switching actions, or to control
pumps and collect error messages at a single point. GEA MATRIX
can also be connected to higher-level bus systems.
In addition, GEA MATRIX assures energy-optimized operation of
GEA Flex fan coil units. A coordinated switch-over function, for
example, prevents heating and cooling circulation systems from
working against each other. By means of the summer compensa-tion function, GEA MATRIX takes outside-temperature influenc-
es into account and prevents energy-intensive climate control.
Hardware and software are developed entirely at GEA. As a result
of close collaboration in the company, GEA engineers can system-
atically adjust the control system to match every component – and
in turn optimally exploit the possibilities of the fan coil units. GEA
support staff also profit from this arrangement by being able to
quickly and expertly react in case of any questions.
Numerous additional global modules are available as function ex-
pansions of the standard local connections. Examples here are: in-
tra-group GEA MATRIX control units and clock modules, modules
for activation control of exhaust-air fans and chillers, expansion of
analogue or digital input and output signals, 0 … 10-V outputs for
valves, and integration into a LON bus system in accordance with
the LonWorks standard.
Starting with MATRIX 2000, all modules can be simply integrated
via the MATRIX.Net bus system. In addition, the service tools
MATRIX.PDA and MATRIX.PC can be used for parameterisation, facility commissioning, maintenance, and data recording from the
MATRIX control system.
Comprehensive control possibilities:
Control functions in various expansion stages
Bus interfaces to other equipment units
Plug-and-play functionality
Energy-optimised equipment operation
Equipment ready to operate
Highly competent service
Global add-on modules
