MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR Greetings from IFIM Business School to the esteemed members of the corporate fraternity. IFIM Business School was established in Bangalore in the year 1995 and over the last 17 years, has now grown into a well-recognized Management Institute of the country. IFIM has acquired a unique institutional equity with all its incumbent attributes such as excellent infrastructure, holistic curriculum, state-of-the-art pedagogy, an excellent blend of veteran academicians with strong research and a corporate background as faculty, and academic partnerships with Universities of international repute. The IFIM’s intellectual capital is also utilized to inculcate human values, professional ethics and consciousness about wellness in students, so as to make them capable of not only taking good decisions for organization, but also making all effort to contribute to society at large.

IFIM Business School has constant support from its promoter, the Dalal Street Investment Journal Group, which has been serving the national equity and commodity markets for the last 25 years. Today, we have alumni strength of over 1,000 discharging key responsibilities in the corporate world. The Institute has been ranked for several years amongst the top 30 B-Schools of India by reputed agencies like Business World, Business India, CSR GHRDC, Outlook, Careers 360, MBA Universe and others. The most innovative, industry relevant syllabus at IFIM includes a 6-month Industry Internship Program (IIP) where students are expected to be with the industry and submit a report thereafter. The IIP is an integral part of the 2-year program which provides a platform to learn practical aspects of business, as well as an opportunity for the organization to check the suitability of students as future managers. As these internships are closely guided by a mentor from the organization as well as a faculty guide, students regularly get absorbed into the same organization.

I, on behalf of the IFIM Business School, extend my sincere thanks for recruiting our students so far, and once again invite you to participate in our IIP and final placement process.

With best regards,

Bramh Prakash Pethiya(B. Tech. (Hons), PGDM (IIM-A), Ph. D)Director, IFIM Business School

It gives me immense pleasure in presenting 152 students of our PGDM 2011–13 batch. They have a PGDM with specializations in Marketing, Finance, HR and Systems, a PDGM in Finance, or in International Business. All of them are available for our unique Industry Internship Program (IIP) from 15th of October, 2012 till end of March 2013. This is followed by a full time placement season from 1st April 2013 onwards. The 6-month IIP, being part of the PGDM program, transforms students into “business-ready” budding managers. The academic exposure, followed by an industry intensive IIP, makes our PGDM holistic and unique.

Industry feedback about our IIP has been very positive and almost 60% of our students, in various organizations, were absorbed for full time placement. This happened because the organization was able to closely observe the quality of our students and their ability to deliver results, for a full 6 months. Another key differentiator at IFIM is our Centre for Personality Development (CPD) which not only provides essential soft skills to all our students but also focuses on overall wellness in a holistic way – making sure that the students have a healthy body, essential for a healthy mind, in order to be able to cope with the pressures of current day corporate life. The complete details of the Wellness program are available on our website. CPD, which provides soft skills and wellness, makes our student well-rounded to meet and manage the current corporate scenario. I would like to cordially invite you to come over to our campus, meet our students and participate in this mission of producing “business-ready” young professionals for the corporate sector.

AN INVITATIONAN INVITATION

Warm regards,

Dr. Manoharan S Assistant Professor – Marketing and Chairperson – IIP & Placements

IFIM Business School, Bangalore, promoted by The Dalal Street Investment Journal Group, was founded in 1995 with its first batch of students graduating in 1997. Today, IFIM finds a place among the Top 30 from amongst the 500+ Business Schools that were started post 1990 in the Private sector. Students from across the country have come to IFIM to graduate as some of the finest managers in the corporate world. In fact, 67% of the students have been placed in companies worth `1000 crores and above.

IFIM Business School has come to acquire a unique 'institutional equity' with its excellent infrastructure, holistic curriculum, state-of-the-art pedagogy, an excellent blend of seasoned academicians and industry practitioners as faculty, an Industry Internship program imparting 6 months of real life experience and academic partnerships with Universities of international repute.

IFIM Business School has over 30 full-time faculty, who have been regular contributors to academic research in the form of books, articles and papers, with excellent academic qualifications and industry experience. IFIM also has a host of visiting faculty from the business world to impart practical insights into the business environment.

IFIM has a number of Centres of Excellence which engage in Research & Training and add value to the PGDM offered by us, as our students are actively involved in all these co-curricular activities, under the guidance of the concerned faculty. These are Centre for Research (CFR), Centre for Entrepreneurship (CFE) and Centre for Social Responsibility (CSR)

Centre for Personality Development (CPD) is a unique concept and goes beyond imparting soft skills training. At the Centre, the students undergo training in the following aspects: Communication Skills (theory and practicals through language labs), Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Techniques, Table Etiquette, Personal Grooming, Interview Skills and Theatre Workshops amongst others. We have external trainers, language labs are being setup on campus and at the Hostel, a matrix for continuous assessments and formal meals for table etiquette will be covered as well. The CPD complements our Centre for Sports and Wellness and gives a holistic approach to IFIM's vision.

The entire model has been developed with a strong view that IFIM students possess the requisite Knowledge, Skill and Attitude. They are not nurtured for one time employment but are thoroughly prepared for continuous employability. This is the basic ideology which helps in achieving a holistic personality.

KNOWLEDGEKNOWLEDGEIFIM strives really hard to create a solid knowledge base for its students. This is made possible with qualified faculty delivering the core curriculum relentlessly. The academic rigor is maintained and it is adaptive to the ever-changing environment. Being an autonomous institute it has the freedom to update and fine-tune the curriculum with regard to market needs.

SKILLSKILLIFIM also focuses on the ability of action and execution. A student needs to be equipped with reading, writing, presenting and analyzing, among various other functional skills, to perform better. The Personality Enhancement program at IFIM has committed itself to sharpen the requisite skills.

ATTITUDEATTITUDEAt IFIM a Wellness program is in place to augment good health. There is enough focus on positive thinking, humility, respect for others, continuous learning and personal grooming, which in turn, influences and enhances the attitude of our students.

The focus of the PGDM curriculum is on all-round development of a manager, who is able to adapt to a fast-changing world, without losing sight of the ethos that drives it. The curriculum places great emphasis on strategic thinking, analytical abilities and a research bent of mind. The live projects, as part of every course, bridge the gap between theory and practice through practical applications and hands-on experience.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

According to the Indian Corporate sector, most of the Engineers and MBAs being produced in this country are not “business-ready” and are not ready to deliver results immediately. At least 6 months of intensive on-the-job training is required before they are capable of performing and delivering results.

Keeping this in mind, IFIM Business School had designed a unique 6-month IIP as an integral part of their PGDM curriculum. The entire academic inputs are delivered within 18 months and during the last 6 months, IFIM (with the support of organizations like yours) has designed an Industry-focused Internship for all the PGDM students. Thus students can get practical exposure to industry and when they join an organization for a full time assignment, they are “business-ready” and can start delivering from Day-1.

All the students will be assigned a faculty mentor, who will guide the students and ensure that the Internship project is of a high standard. The companies to whom they are assigned will also have to assign a mentor, who will guide the student on a day-to-day basis and will be a single point contact for the IFIM faculty mentor. The objective is to make the student complete a project which will be beneficial to the organization too. The period of the IIP will be from 15th of October 2012 till end of March 2013. The student will be able to take up a full-time assignment only after 31st March 2013, after they have completed their internship to the satisfaction of the Institute and not earlier.

The concept of the IIP has been appreciated by both students and Industry. Last year, around 60% of the students who did an internship with various companies were absorbed by them.

“We have regularly had interns and also had fresh recruits from IFIM. They start off immediately as business analysts because they have been trained enough to be employable from day one, and this helps us tremendously.”

Anupama Pillai – Head – HRNSE.IT Ltd.,

Anshuman Mishra-Vice President - AnalyticsGENPACT

“We took 6 interns from IFIM. During the internship period they were able to quickly learn and adapt to various needs of the corporate environment. Apart from learning various processes, they were able to seamlessly assimilate and be part of the overall culture. All of them demonstrated high levels of energy. Their performance during the internship period ensured that we provided them with PPO”

Varadaraj M – Manager Projects The Nielsen Company

“IFIM Business School provides well-groomed and well trained candidates as interns. They are well positioned for a quick start in our organization. We place these candidates in our key projects with assured good results. The Institute is very professionally managed with its experienced faculty and it transforms students to deliver results. The students are disciplined with the right attitude. We are happy being associated with IFIM Business School.”

Companies are invited to the campus and to select students, either for the IIP or for Final Placements, or both, at a mutually convenient day/time. Once students get an offer for an Internship from an organization, they cannot try for the same with other organizations, either through the Placement Cell or on their own. If they receive an offer for Final Placement, they cannot continue to be part of the placement process. Once they get an offer, a decision must be taken by the student and formally communicated to the Placement Cell, which will then inform the companies accordingly.
