Tour of the School/Meeting with Parents
This is a reminder that I am again offering parents the opportunity to see the
school at work and also for you to be able to discuss with me any issues or
concerns that you have which are either of a general nature or relate directly
to the progress of your child.
Next Tuesday, 17th
March we invite you to come along on a tour of the school
during the school day when the students are at work so that you can see
first-hand what is going on. We do promise, however, to make sure that we
avoid the lesson that your child is in as I am sure that both parents and
certainly the students would prefer this. There is also the opportunity to
meet with me one to one, again on the 17th
March. Fifteen minute
appointments can be booked between 5.00pm – 6.15pm. If you wish to be
involved in either or both of these, please call Mrs Moss on 01932 219403 or
email her at [email protected]

Voting Underway For New Thamesmead Skirt Design
After an overwhelming response from parents in support of a standard
school skirt, KS3 girls have been evaluating the options. They have tried on
skirts from other schools and designed their own. We have had the two top
designs made up and now is the time to vote for the option that will become
the new Thamesmead school skirt! KS3 girls can vote via the link on their
Frog Student Homepage - the deadline is 16th
March. The options can be
seen on the attached poster.
We are currently in talks with uniform providers to finalise the cost and
purchasing options and will publish this information to parents by Easter.
The new skirt will be compulsory for all girls in Years 7-10 from September
2015, unless they choose to wear school trousers. It will be compulsory for
all girls from September 2016 (unless, once again, they choose to wear
trousers).
ACM Open Day
Thank you to all the parents and students who have taken part so far – please
discuss the options with your daughters and cast that vote!
Year 9 Photos
Students in Year 9 had their school photos taken on Wednesday and were
given an order form to take home. You can order any of these photographs
as well as order the digital image on disk or download by typing in the
photograph reference number and password in the boxes provided on the
Success Photography Schools website
https://www.successphotography.com/schools/
You can either order online with your debit or credit card or by returning the
order form with a cheque or postal order to the address at the bottom of the
form. There is also an option to order over the telephone.
Further to the printed proofs, Success Photography can offer the option of
seeing an electronic version of your child’s photographs. For this you will
need to register your child for e-proofing (electronic proofing) on the secure
website just once.
https://www.successphotography.com/Schools-Online-Registration/
Once you have registered your child/children, each time another photograph
is taken it will add it to your account automatically and you will also
be notified by e-mail when a new photograph becomes available. This will
save time and effort typing in all photograph reference numbers & passwords
for each of the children.

KS3 - The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
A mysterious character known only as ‘the man Jack’ sneaks into a family
home and kills mum, dad and older sister. When he reaches the nursery,
however, the family's two-year-old son is missing, having scooted out
mischievously into the night. The man Jack, whose silence and hunting skills
seem not quite of this world, follows the scent of the boy to a nearby disused
graveyard.
The NY times described this Newbury and Carnegie winning book as exciting,
witty and sinister’ which is spot on! Gaiman's villains are a creation so
creepy, the pack of terrifying murderers and a twist in the tale you will not
see coming make this a great read.
KS4 - The Road of the Dead by Kevin Brooks
Late one night, two brothers learn that their sister has died in the worst way
imaginable. She’s found, strangled, in a desolate place hundreds of miles
from their East London home. Ruben's brother Cole fights violence with
violence and not of the Alex Rider or Young Bond variety. This is frighteningly
real. ‘You can taste the blood in your mouth as you read this’ is how Philip
Ardagh described this in the Guardian. Gritty and uncomfortable but well
worth reading. Mrs Garraway
Sporting News
Well done to the Year 7 Netball Team: Georgina (Captain), Safia (Vice-
Captain), Maddie, Abbie, Olivia, Scarlett, Amber Khinda, Amy-Leigh Cook,
Alice and Savannah.
The girls have done incredibly well in their first season at Thamesmead
School. We are currently third in the district league, winning all our games
bar one so far- we narrowly missed out against Matthew Arnold as we were
neck and neck throughout until the last two minutes when we lost 10-12. Our
best game by far was winning 20-0 against Thomas Knyvett. With two games
left to go against St Paul’s and Magna Carta, we will look to secure a top spot
in the league.
Our first of many tournaments took place on Wednesday 18th
March and the
girls went along very excited and nervous. We won our pool beating Thomas
Knyvett 9-0, Jubilee High 5-1 and Bishop Wand 4-0 which took us through to
the semi-finals. It was a very close match with the score being 2-1 to Magna
Carta at half time. Unfortunately nerves got the better of us and despite
having lots of possession and shots the girls lost 4-2.
Our final game was for 3rd and 4th place playoffs, again against Jubilee High.
The girls went on to finish on a high, winning 7-1. So out of 8 schools the girls
came third overall. Well done for all your effort and commitment this year - I
look forward to winning the tournament next year!! Mrs Ward
