AYE AYE CAPTAIN

As Term 1 is almost to an end, we reflect on our achievements so far this year. Our focus

on an uninterrupted first two hours of learning has supported our children in making

gains in literacy and numeracy. We have progress graphs to share with the P&C at the

meeting on Thursday 27 April. Have a happy and safe break. I’ll look forward to seeing lots

of students wearing their uniform proudly at the ANZAC Day march on 25 April.

K. Johanson, principal.

A huge ‘Thank You’ goes to Maitland Men’s Shed for creating Captain Gillo’s boat. They

have been working on this for months. It has five purpose made steering wheels to ensure

all children in the boat can be steering it full steam ahead!

FANTAILS

Classroom Capers ************************

Please check for head lice regularly.

Last week everyone took home a sheet with high

frequency words and the Jolly Phonics sounds. Ask

us to show you the Jolly Phonic action when we do

these sounds with you at home. When we do Jolly

Phonics in class we also focus on the correct letter

formation of each sound. The Fantails enjoy doing

Jolly Phonics activities on the Smartboard and

listening to the Jolly Jingles.

Meryl Swanson is running an Easter colouring in competition for local Kindergarten

students. The Guppies and Fantails have been busy colouring in masterpieces to send

away. They have been mailed and will be displayed in her office window. If you are in the

Raymond Terrace area please have a look!

CLOWNFISH

The Clownfish have been learning about

money, and one of our Maths activities is

putting together a shop to experiment with

finding the right money, and in some cases,

giving change. Talking to children about

using money in real life, like grocery

shopping, helps them to make better sense

of what they are learning in the classroom.

We love art in the Barramundi classroom, and this week we have been improving our art

skills through singing and drawing.

Being an adult is better than being a

child.

This statement sparked some great

argumentative discussion in our

classroom with all of the Sharks

producing high quality persuasive texts

in response. So what would you rather

be; an adult or a child?

Let’s create a cookbook so we can better

understand how to navigate different text

types. Hammerheads had to ensure they

included key navigational items in their

cookbook such as a contents, glossary, index

and introduction so anyone who reads it can

find anything they want quickly and easily.

FUN FRIENDS FAMILY CHECK IN

Our focus over the last few weeks

has been changing our red thoughts

to green thoughts. This could be

sometime when we have faced a

challenge. Instead of thinking it is

too hard, we keep trying and stay

positive. Can your child tell you when

they have had a green thought?

This week our PBL focus is ‘speak and act nicely.’ The Blue tangs

(Mrs Ison) showed us how to do that by showing respect to the

teacher and their peers during class time. They demonstrated what

our PBL looks like. Well done Blue tangs!

Our PBL focus for this week is:

Speak and Act Nicely…….

EASTER/HARMONY DAY This year our Easter Hat Parade and Harmony Day celebrations will be held on Friday 7th April. It’s time to start creating and preparing your Easter Hats at home! Parents are welcome to join the children in the classrooms for Harmony Day activities as well as the Easter Hat Parade. Harmony Day Activities 12:30—1:30pm Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. It is a day for all Australians to embrace cultural diversity and to share what we have in common. The central message for Harmony Day is that ‘everyone belongs’, reinforcing the importance of inclusiveness to all Australians. All students will participate in Harmony Day Activities in classrooms during the middle session. To celebrate Harmony Day, we encourage all students to wear orange on the day. Easter Hat Parade 2:15 to 3:05pm The Easter Hat Parade will be in the COLA. All students are welcome to participate in the parade with a hat that they have decorated at home. Be as creative and colourful as you can! Parents and carers are able to bring their child’s hat to school before school (where it will be placed in a safe place) or around 2pm ready for the parade.

IN THE EVENT OF WET WEATHER CHILDREN WILL PARADE THEIR HATS IN THEIR CLASSROOMS

Easter Raffle (Guessing Competition) The Student Representative Council (SRC) will be running an Easter Raffle that will be drawn at the end of the parade. They would like students to donate chocolate eggs to fill the baskets for prizes. There is an ice block prize for the class who brings in the most eggs! The raffle tickets have been sent home with students. They are 50c per ticket/$5 a book. It will be drawn at the end of the Easter Hat Parade.
