About Us The Arizona Nanotechnology Cluster is a not-for-profit organization formed in January 2003 to share and promote technology advances in the fast-growing field of Nanotechnology. Our membership includes an active group of interested engineers (electrical, mechanical and chemical), scientists (medical and materials) and business-people from industry and academia. Share your conceptualization of the uses and potential impact of Nanotechnology on our way of life through an original, creative essay. Elgibility Division I: Arizona High School Students grades 9-12 Division II: Arizona Full-time College or University Students (at time of submission). Essay Prizes The following winners will be selected in each Division. 1st Place - $500 Scholarship 2nd Place - $300 Scholarship 3rd Place - $200 Scholarship Topics Keeping the City Infrastructure Healthy: Using Nanotechnology to Monitor and/or Control City Struc- tures and Systems. Keeping Citizens Healthy: Using Nanomedicine, Nanoscale materials, NEMs, MEMs, etc. to improve personal health. Essay Requirements 1. Submit an original essay on one of the aforementioned topics. 2. Essay must reflect the student’s own research and writing. 3. Essays must be at least 500 words but no longer than 1500 words. 4. One essay submission per person. 5. Must be in English. 6. Submit in Microsoft Word format. 7. Essays must be double-spaced and no smaller than 11pt. font. Number essay pages. 8. All essays become the property of Arizona Nanotechnology Cluster. 9. Include a cover page with the following information: Essay Title, Name, Parent/Guardian Name (under 18 years old), Address, Telephone Number, email address, Grade, High School/College/University. 10. Deadline: All entries must be received by midnight March 16, 2008 MST. 11. Submit essays or questions to: [email protected] Essay Judging The essays will be judged by a panel established by the Arizona Nanotechnology Cluster. All judges decisions are final. Winner Notification Winners will be notified by April 1, 2008. Winning Essays will be displayed at the 2008 Arizona Nano- technology Cluster Symposium, April 10.
