Unit Question: How does advertising manipulate our actions


IntroductionMy client, The boo’s, is one of the most prominent bands in all over the country. No one could resist listening to their musics. However, they

wanted more people to admire their skills and of course, becoming their fans and regularly listening to their musics. But there is a problem that

occurred with my client. They do not know ways to promote their bands. Since my client hired me to promote their bands, I will need to

think different ways of promoting their band.

Throughout this semester, I am going to design a brochure that is suitable for 18 years older, because this band has a lot of inappropriate words

that are not suitable for kids. To make a superb quality of the design, I will need to go through certain steps which is, investigation, design, plan,

create and evaluation. I will interview the client and discuss their willingness of how the design would end up like. I will design the

brochure carefully similar to my clients selection.


Areas Of Interaction

This design relates to human ingenuity because I will be designing a brochure for the public, which will then promote the band. Human ingenuity is the way in which human minds have influenced how we

think, work, play, construct and conduct friendships and other relationship, interact with each other, find solutions to problems, cause

problems, transform things and justifying thoughts. I need to apply creative thinking skills to create an eye catching brochure so people

might take a look at it.


Client Interview

1. What specific type of musics does your band play?

Well, Our band admires heavy metal musics, hard rock musics and symphonic metal. But lately, we played heavy metal musics occasionally.

3. Do you have any demands on the amount of time needed for the brochure to be made?

Obviously, we would definitely like it as soon as possible,latest this month, but don’t rush, quality is the one you must concern most.

2. What layout design would you rate highly for your brochure?

Layout design does not matter to us, but you could add a picture of ourinstruments like the drum, electronic guitars, microphones and pianos.

Make it as eye-catching as you can, so people might bother staring and reading the brochure, not just glancing at it; then walk away.


Client Interview Summary

From the interview with my client, I have obtained information that theirband played heavy metal music, hard rock music and symphonic metal music.But they played Heavy metal music occasionally, and preferred Heavy metal

music. About the layout design, they do not mind that much. But they request to add

a pictureof their instruments. Like the drum, electronic guitars, microphones and pianos. The demands on the amount of time needed for the brochure to be made is,

this month, the latest. But they mentioned not to rush on making the brochure, but quality is the one they seek and concern most.

Case Study Summary

When searching 3 different designs of brochure on how they promote their bands, I mainly focused more on the design of the brochure. However, I

obtained more ideas on how my brochure is going to look like after critically evaluating on these 3 different brochures. The case study will help me

because I will be able to acquire more ideas.


Software

PagesPages is an easy-to-use application that allows users to quickly create

document on their home computers. A number of designed

template comprising different hemes, ( such as letters, resumes, brochures, posters, and outlines),

are included with Pages.

Price: Not required, application is provided by school

Blank A4 PaperI realized that the most vital

material needed for the brochure to be made is a Blank A4 paper. To

print the brochure through the printer, a blank A4 paper is

required.

Summary of the researchersI focused more on how my design brochure is going to end up. Since I had a lot of experience using Pages application, it will be the most suitable application to be used for designing a brochure. The design

of the brochure has not been decided yet, however the main material throughout this whole process is a blank A4 paper, where

the brochure is going to be printed there. I have chosen the Blank A4 paper as it’s main material throughout this process because it is the most appropriate material to create a brochure. The price is not a

huge problem to my client since they are one of the most prominent bands around the world, they are able to afford up to $500.


Impacts to Environment and the Society

Impacts on the environment

When making a brochure, it has an instant effect on the forest. Wood will most likely to be the main material needed to produce papers. But, If I want to make a

brochure, means, trees will be cut down and transferred to the factory to be processed. Trees are being cut down almost

every-day, due to this cause, it makes our environment hotter, makes the soil more vulnerable to land slides and other natural disasters. Without tress, there are no

oxygen and animal will lose their habits on their trees.

Impact on the society

As the world develops further, new singers, dancers, bands, etc, will come.However, they would eventually find different ways to promote themselves

throughout the world. A brochure could be one of their choices.


Design Brief

I will design a creative brochure to promote the band.This process of making the brochure will be made throughout of going five steps of the design cycle, which are investigation, design, plan, create and evaluation. Investigation, design and plan will be done before making the brochure to ensure its appropriate materials for the brochure, time management, design of the brochure and specification points to make a

superb quality brochure. The create stage will be done at school, at technology class. When the brochure is made perfectly, which includes

all steps of the design cycle, then the brochure will be evaluated critically based on specific points. After evaluating the brochure, the brochure will be given to my client for a quick examine and will be

distributed to public.

I need to research further in the internet about the durability of a blank A4 paper

Weight Weight is extremely light because it is a thin material which is a blank A4 paper

Summary of Investigation- The interview that was done with my client allowed me some

visualization on how the design of the brochure is going to be like

- By inspecting different kinds of materials that could be used for a brochure, I was able to differentiate many brochures and

choose which one that meets my clients requirements

- By researching the impacts that the brochure contributes towards the environment gave me an idea on how the

environment could be affected by my brochure that will be produced

- The Case study on 3 different types of brochure gave me a conception on how my brochure is going to be like, this

includes the size, design, style, fonts, etc.

- The specification points will guide me throughout the process of making the brochure. From the Materials usage, Aesthetics

(Appearance), Time needed, Durability, etc.

Summary Of the Designs

Design 1: The Design of the website looks atheistically pleasing on howthe slideshows, information, categories are elegantly arranged. However, Software is not provided therefore, we cannot gain

access to make the website but the cost of produce is not expensive.

Design 3:The brochure design indicated at design 3 looks exceedingly

simple. But, the software is provided in the laptop and the time required to produce the design is very short.

Design 2:A superb design of the website occurs at Design 2. Not onlythe design of the website that makes it eye-catchy, but also

an informative website with each profile picture of the band’s member and their brief information about them-selves.


Design 4:Design 4 brochure is very eye-catchy due to it’s arrangement

of the information and the picture. The software is provided in the laptop and the time required to produce the brochure may

be above the time that is expected.

Design 5:The story-board planning looks good, the transition of the

movie moves very smoothly. But, the time required to produce the movie may take a long time than the time expected. The Software is provided in the laptop which is called, “I-Movie”

and the cost to produce is not expensive.

Design 6:The only software that is needed to produce this movie is the I-Movie. The story-board planning looks fine and the cost to produce is cheap. But, the time to produce the movie may be

longer than expected.

I Chose Design 4 As the Best DesignI appreciate this design because:

- Its aesthetics (it is well designed, with all the photos, which is making the brochure (eye-catching)

- Its ease of creation (you are not going to take a lot of time to make it, since it is pretty simple, not like a video or a whole website. Moreover you have enough useful softwares

which will help you a lot

- Its target audience (in my opinion, this is the most important and useful specification in the brochure advertisement. You can choose and distribute the paper to your target

audience desired: a 60-years old grandpa or a 16-years old teenager. (This all depends on the band’s genre of music)

- The cost to make it and to advertise it (the cost to design it is nothing, free. The cost to advertise it isn’t expensive though. Printing isn’t very expensive. If you would make a short video about the band then advertise it by TV, it wouldn’t be expensive to make and design

it, but the cost to advertise can be incredible

- Mt Step by Step plan is very simple due to how simple the brochure is made. It just gives you a visualization on how brochure is going to be made through a certain process.

I started by choosing my desired design template of my brochure. I end up

choosing Classic Brochure template due to how the information

and the picture are arranged. The next step is to google picture’s

of the band and screenshot it that will then beinserted to our brochure.

After I had enough of googling pictures, I have to

arrange the pictures according to my design that I’ve made,

(Which is Design 4)Next week, I must start ontyping down information on

the band.

After the pictures of the band and equipments are arranged according to my design, I filled in information about the current Band

that I am promoting. This means, the bands information about the music they’re playing, how famous they are, how the band looks like,

information on inviting them to weddings or party and contact number of the Band, etc.

Evaluation


Investigation: In the investigation stage, I interview one of the most prominent bands about what kind of brochure

layout they want it to look like. However, I was successful on interviewing my band. Now, I have a picture of what my

brochure is going to end up like, which is a good thing so that I could proceed to the next stage without worrying.

Design: In the Design stage, I designed 6 layouts of how will the brochure be presented. After 6 layouts are done, I

will choose one layout that best suits my band’s requirements. The application I’m going to use is Pages. Next

is to produce my brochure using my best layout that I’ve designed. Overall, the design of the brochure is going to be

perfect and will match the band’s requirements.

Plan: In the Plan stage, I made a gantt chart to arrange my time needed to create the brochure design,

decoration and the information that is needed to be filled. I made a gantt chart to plan my step by step plan to create the brochure. However, it went well, the time

needed for each step to be done is almost accurate.


Evaluate: In the Evaluate stage, I’ve explained each detailed steps needed to create my brochure. Gantt

Chart is included, and the applications needed to create my brochure is perfect for the right context.

Everything I’ve included is reasonably perfect.

Create: In the Create stage, I’ve created a Brochure using Pages application. I chose pages to create my Brochure because it allows the user to quickly to create a professional quality documents at my laptop. Pages could design template in different themes. Such as Posters, Letters, Brochures and outlines. I decided to color the brochure into a spectacular color that will

attract the people to watch their bands. Sometimes with a lack of color, the brochure could not really get the people’s attention. But the color that I’ve

planned is eye-catchy and will definitely attract people to seek more into their bands.

Successful Points:

In my opinion, I think I did well in making the brochure. Color’s are Bright, Layouts are perfect, Font’s are cool and somehow

eye-catching. Backgrounds colors that will attract people because of it’s brightness. Eventually, my brochure will be a excellent piece of brochure that will attract people to seek

more into the band.


Least Successful Points:

In my brochure, the information is more numerous than the number of picture’s. The information seemed to be so much, that will then make it boring. In a eye-catching brochure, the pictures should not have a lack of color

and information should be brief as possible so the audience would not get bored after seeing my brochure.


Modifications/Improvements

After I’ve gained experience in making a brochure for the band, I would eventually change the band’s brochure

layout color from a darkish color to a light color. Because the brochure could sometimes not attract

people that much due to the lack of color. it is possible to produce a good quality brochure with superior

layouts and appealing colors.
