Dr. Joy B Greene graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill in 1998. Prior to joining Union University as an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and the Assistant Director of Experiential Education, Dr. Greene served as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy and the Director of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) at Wingate University from 2005-2011. Prior to her faculty appointment at Wingate University, Dr. Greene opened and managed two community pharmacies in North Carolina, Moose Midland Pharmacy and Oakboro Pharmacy where she served as the pharmacist manager and coordinated clinical services (including diabetes clinics).
Dr. Greene’s faculty appointment at Union University includes coordinating the Non-Prescription Drugs/Counseling course during the first professional year, teaching in the second and third professional year Pharmacotherapy courses and leading the elective course, The Christ-Centered Pharmacist. Dr. Greene also coordinates the IPPE rotations for first and second professional year students and serves as one of the Christian Pharmacist Fellowship International student advisers.
God has placed a calling on Dr. Greene’s life to teach! She enjoys teaching in the pharmacy classroom and she enjoys teaching women through the Bible studies she writes. Each year, Dr. Greene leads a women’s Bible study at her church (Englewood Baptist Church) here in Jackson. She has written several studies including “The Excellence-Driven Woman”
and “The Walls Fell Flat.” Dr. Greene also enjoys speaking at local Christian women’s events. In 2012, Dr. Greene started Joytime Ministries (www.joytime.org). Joytime is featured on the Dove 97.7 here in Jackson.
Dr. Greene enjoys being with her husband, Bryan, and their two children, Ellie and Sam. She enjoys studying God’s Word, baking with her children, practicing Taekwondo, playing the piano, teaching Sunday school and watching North Carolina Tarheel basketball.
Dr. Joy Greene will speak at the spring luncheon on April 23.

From the President
Greetings! The spring semester at Union University is off to a fine start with a record spring enrollment of 3970. Homecoming 2013 was a fantastic time, with a wonderful gathering of alums
from the Class of 1963. Dr. Cindy Jayne gave this year’s Founder’s Day Lecture during Homecoming week, tracing Union’s involvement in the work of Global Education and Mission Service over the decades. It was an inspiring overview. We congratulate long time faculty member Dr. Walton Padelford on his appointment to the Porter Family Chair of Business and Economics.
The Union Lady Bulldogs finished in first place in their first regular season in the Gulf South Conference. We are happy for
Coach Mark Campbell and the team. The overall transition process to the NCAA II is going well. We congratulate Tommy Sadler, Katie Woodruff, and Jerry Tidwell for their capable leadership.
We are expecting the largest graduating class in Union’s history this year. I know that you will join me in praying for these new graduates as they seek God’s guidance regarding the next step in their journey. We trust that they will be placed in positions where they can reflect the love of Christ to many around them.
On a personal word, let me thank all of you for your support for me during the time following the death of my mother at the end of the fall semester. Your kindness and expressions of care were overwhelming, for which I am so very grateful. Many people during that time carried the responsibility
for providing for our students during the Christmas season. To all who made such a difference in the lives of these students and who extended the work of the Auxiliary in this way, I am truly thankful.
The spring semester gathering of the Auxiliary will be on April 23 in the Grant Center. Our speaker will be Dr. Joy Greene, Associate Professor in the School of Pharmacy. Dr. Greene has a wonderful gift for communicating the truths of God’s Word in a practical way. We look forward to hearing from her and seeing you on that day. Until then, we pray God’s blessings for you and your families.
With love,
Lanese
Rick Warren, in The Purpose Driven Life, writes in one section titled “What On Earth Am I Here For?” Each day we study and pray and our thoughts return to those who
have made a difference in our lives. We think of our parents, friends, colleagues…and other strong Christians. We are thankful for those who have gone before us and current friends who guide us in our daily walk. As we reflect on our own path, only in eternity will we know how far our lives and influence have counted for God.
With a membership in our Union Auxiliary of approximately 200 women, we owe a debt of gratitude to those who have gone before. We can make a difference! The Auxiliary’s purpose is to provide a service arm to Union University through the provision of scholarships. Like the University, we seek to operate as an excellence-driven, Christ-centered, people-focused, and future-directed institution. In addition to scholarships, we offer support to the lives of both
international students and students of missionary families. Yes, scholarships make a difference.
Lanese Dockery, President of the Auxiliary, understands the value of giving contributions in honor/in memory of someone. “My mother, Polly Huckeba, left her earthly home and went to be with the Lord last fall. We are so grateful for all the cards, flowers, food and words of comfort our friends provided during this time. Some of our friends gave a lasting gift to the Auxiliary Scholarship—one that will continue for years to come and will make a difference in the life of a student.”
Reflecting back on the messages from The Purpose Driven Life, how can we, as women of the Union Auxiliary, be more supportive of giving to the scholarship? Think about those individuals in your life who have supported you. Who prayed for you during the valleys of life—or when you rose to the mountain top? Is there a birthday you always recognize and purchase a present? What about a graduation gift sent in the name of the graduate? Or, are you one of many who
needed scholarship help during your college days and money was provided? Think about this: How has education made a difference in what you have accomplished?
I quote Steve Maraboli, in Life, the Truth, and Being Free: “Give freely to the world these gifts of love and compassion. Do not concern yourself with how much you receive in return, just know in your heart it will be returned.”
Perhaps Margaret Mead, said it best. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Union students are the best and brightest. Our graduates go to all corners of the world proclaiming Christ. Support our scholarship program by giving in honor or in memory of a person who has blessed your life. Take an active part in changing the world.

My name is Jeremy Isbell and I am a senior pursuing a degree in music with an emphasis in Christian Studies. I grew up in Jackson
at West Jackson Baptist Church and began singing in high school at Madison Academic and at West Jackson. When I came to college, I was given the opportunity to begin serving as a music intern at West Jackson. I have also been allowed the opportunity to sing in many of the ensembles at Union University including Singers and Proclamation. Through these experiences and much prayer, I became sure that the
Lord was calling me to vocational ministry. I now serve as an interim music director at FBC Selmer, TN. I also am currently employed at Chick-Fil-A in the Old Hickory Mall. I have one brother, Kevin and a sister, Anna. My parents are Chris and Lisa and I am getting married this summer to another Union senior, Crystal Jones. We will be living in Jackson at least for the time being. I hope to eventually be able to continue my studies at seminary. Music is my passion and my desire is to use the abilities God has given me to honor Him in whatever opportunities He affords me throughout my life.
Jeremy Isbell will provide the special music for our luncheon on April 23.
