  3. 3. Hermeneutic/Enigma Code - The audience engaged in asking what will happen? A men was running away from something but what? That same man collapsed but why? Who is the man? What was the woman screaming at? Who is the other gentlemen who steals from him? What did he take?
  4. 4. Events and Action/ Proairectic Code - The events which take place, which form a sequence of identifiable events (or chapters) We hear a dog howling Man runs through graveyard and collapse A man steals from a collapsed man Woman opens a door and begins to scream

Symbolic Code -The extent to which things may stand for something else Running through a graveyard represents the danger and creates an ominous atmosphere because he is surrounded by the dead, is he soon to become one of them? Running- Scared, running from what? Screams- creates tension and climax
  6. 6. Semic Code -The connotations which audiences pick up through aspects of mise en scene etc. Setting has connotations of wealth: -the large house -large iron gates -man in a suit Graveyard- he is surrounded by the dead, is he soon to become one of them?
