VENT & FLARE
VENT = SYSTEM DESIGNED TO VENT GAS TO ATMOSTPHEREWITHOUT FLARING
COLD VENT = VENT HANDLING SIGNIFICANT FLOWRATE FROMPRESSURISED EQUIPMENT.Suitable for Satellite wellhead installations due to limited source of ignition.
COLD MEANS “WITHOUT FLAME”
COLD VENT – CRITERIA (TYPICAL)
H2S should be
less than 0.5 %
& molecular wt.
should be less
than 60
Velocity should
be greater
than 150 m/s
Relieving temp
should be less
than auto Ignition
temp. of gas
being relieved
Vented volume
should be
less than
8.5 MSm3/Yr
Gas
Concentration
Should be less
than 100% LFL
In case of
accident Ignition,
radiation should
be less than
1500 btu/hr/sqft

FLARE = DISPOSAL SYSTEM
DESIGNED TO BURN
GAS
1. Combustion of hydrocarbon converts in to less
objectionable & less harmful compounds.
2. Elevated flares assist in gas dispersion.
3. Elevated flares generally have lower radiation
level.
4. Elevated flare are preferred if effluent are
acidic/toxic.

Instrument gas filter/separator
Remember !!
Should be tapped off from top of the vertical riser, down
stream of launcher to avoid any problems arising out of
sudden change in composition when NEW WELL comes on
line.
Instrument & utility gas system should be separate in order
to avoid liquid carryover in instrument gas system when
demand for utility gas is very high.

DRAIN SYSTEM
CLOSED DRAIN OPEN DRAIN
1. RECOVERY OF HYDROCARBONS FROM EQUIPMENTS & PIPING FOR MAINTENANCE AND PRIOR TO LONG TERM SHUTDOWN.
2. LIQUID FROM SUMP TANK VIA SUMP PUMP DISCHARGE.
1. COLLECTION OF RAIN WATER & WASH WATERFROM HAZARDOUS AND NON-HAZARDOUS AREA
2. ANY OTHER OPEN DRAIN FROM PLATFORM.3. A PUMP WILL DISCHARGE TO DISPOSAL TUBE
OR OVER BOARD SUBJECT TO COLLECTED WATER BEING FREE OF HYDROCARBON.
