    not

    but for

    the

    Because of Mrs. Colde

    no t

being so up an d coming as sh e wants

    fall back

    somewhat

    to keep

    th e household duties

    from ill

    repute,

    to

    see that

    Mainie stays

on h er stri ct diet, take care of more of

    th e

    correspondence, mai ling list,

    and the

    money you send in

    could. So

    much

to be done, so little time.

    Also, he

    must

    edit and tape and

    keep

    up the

    Puerto

    Rico

    broadcast , tape

    songs

for o ther s, retape some for others, keep

up his own equipme.nt for tape recording,

    then

    proof

    Mainie

    300 to 400 names

Then gather it al l up

    th e

    don't have

a way to r et urn t he Listens to

    Then

    look at

    each Lis ten

    as

    they

    come in, tic

them up properly as a former postal clerk

would, then mail them. In about a day

we begin receiving returns for wrong ad

    dress

    at 10c per

    aadress. This

    is a full

    time

    job

    correcting addresses. But when

    it comes to paying

    cut

    10c of t he Lor d' s

    money

    it is tragic. So please

    send your

l at es t add re ss , now if you have not.

    if you kn ow

    of

    some

    good

    persons

    who

love the Lord who w ou ld lik e to rece ive

please send their names and ad

    dresses.

    I t will help

    in

    this t ime of crisis

    fo r us if

    you

    would. It is one

    way you

    ca n

    help.

    A mission work or worker

    depends

    on

    th e

    c on ta ct s t he y

    can

    make

    fo r finan

cial support. Now that we cannot get out

    an d

    go

    an d

    s ee people and

    personally

    pr e

    sent the work

    to

    as

    great

    an extent

    as

    formerly

    (for

    a

    t ime

    at

    least)

    we

    nec

    al l of

    your

    help

    in

many w ay s. Th is is

    way you

    ca n help.

    The

    Gospel

    Broadcasting

    Mission fuhds

are very low We had to wait until beiii

    ning of

    ugust

    until funds increased

    s

    that

    we

    could

    pay some of the broadcast

    in g bills. This is

    dangerous

    to

    th e

    gooc

    credit

    we

have a lway s main ta in ed . It

    is

s er ious and could lead to

    losing

    a good pr o

    gram and b roadcast ing

    spot that could

    never b e r eg ain ed . There

    are

    those

    with

    ready money

wai ti ng f or such spots.

The ques ti on now is what will th e

    s it ua ti on b e

    Sept.

    1 wh en all

    b il ls s houl d

    be paid,

    or rather

    Aug.

    31? At that date

also cur note is du e

    of

    500 that we bor

rowed at the ba nk (responsibility ours) to

    pay

    th e

    bills of

    broadcasting

    for M arch.

    At

    t ha t

    t ime

    a lo t

    of folks

    don t

    wan t to

    touch

    their bank accounts in

    order

    to

    pay

their b ig ta xe s. Bu t

    big

    taxes m ean big

money they tell us . We wouldn't know.

    But

    now

    is a

    good

    t ime to

    give

    th e

money saved at that time when you didn't

have to draw on your bank

    account

    to pay

    taxes.

    Thank

    you,

We are making th e following APPEAL

Donald and Marianne Baughman are the

    the

The Power of the Spirit is

    constantly

    pro

    ven

    in

    Nigeria. One example

    took p lac e in

the vi llage of Appiapum. In t he words

    of

    evange li s t Lawrence

    Ebak:

    Appiapum is

    my

    home

    town.

    It

    is

    in

    Ob-

ubra Distr ic t , Eastern

bitants are mostly farmers. They grow yams,

corn, plantain, sugar cane, oranges, r ice,

    cocoa, cassava , beans,

    okra, etc. Most of

    the people are not Christians.

    My visit home

    was

    only

    for two weeks.

    Tha t mean t

    only

    two

    Sundays

to be present in the village. The

    f irst Sunday I attended a

    worship

    service in

    the Presbyterian church.

    This

    helped many

    people who

    never knew

    I was

    in th e village

    to

know that I was there with them. After they

    knew that I had successfully

    gone

    through

    my

cou rs e a s a preacher, they never thought of

    me

    as

    an

    ordina ry member

    of

    th e Church

    of

    Chris t

    but as a

    preacher . The next

    Sunday

    I

    was

    given

    an

    invitation paper which

    reques

te d me to preach them

    a

    sermon.

    I

    accepted.

    I went to the

    church

    with my

    sermon, Sin:

    Adultery

    and

    Fornication.

    After th e

    service

    was over, everywhere

    in the

    village

    people

    commented

    on my ser

    commonest

    sins

    in the village.

    Those

    who came to see

    me

    began to question

    me

    how and why I

    managed

    to

    become

    a

    preacher in th e

    chu rch o f Christ .

    Then they

    said

    to

    me,

    Would

    you

    like to

    be a preacher

in the Presby ter i an Church?

    Friends,

    this was as possible

    as having

    a child reject his

    parents.

    This was

    not

    what

I wanted. They never knew I was seeking

    for

a way to have t hem bap ti zed into

    Christ .

We know what generally is the reaction

    of

    men

    if one

    doe s not

do wha t they wan t him

    to

    do . There

    was

    a

    great opposition

    that I

    w o u l d

    n o t h a ve t h e

    c h u r c

    o f C h r i s t s t ar t ed

    i n

    my village. I

    went

    to

    the

    Head

    Chief

    and

    he

    was

friendly. He is a member in th e

    East

    House of Assembly

    and

    has

    four wives. It

    was h i s

    d e s i r e

    to have m o r e churches in th

    village.

    I

    told

    him Christ ianity was

    no t

    a

    m a t t e r o f

    the number o f churches

    one h a s

    a

    place, but

    the Christian way

    of l ife.

    Th

    I said, No one

    will

call a man that has mo

    than

    one wife

    a

    Christ ian, even i f

    he has a

    church

    right inside his

    house.

    At th e first

    worship se rv ice there

    66. As t ime

    wen t on

    the

    opposition

    increa

    sed,

    so the

    a ttendance dropped to 40 . I

knew it was not something I was going to d

    alone without earnestly asking

    th e Spirit

    o

    ro to give me a

    helping

    hand in the work.

    I

    spent

    most of

    my

    time in prayer

    and call

    The people

    said,

    church

    coming into the vil lage

    must

    take

    permissi

from the Presbyterian church before any

    work

    is begun.

    One o f the e l d e r s said , ou h av e

    I knew

    Since i t w as th e w il l o f God t h a t h is v il

    asked

    me

    to remain

    and

t each them. I stayed in

    th e

    village

for t ii ree months .

    After this

    th e

    attendance increased; the opposition was

    coming

    to an

    end,

    and the headmaster of

the school gave me an invitation

    to

    deliver

    a

lecture. My subject on that day was
