Number Facts Students have been practising number facts to improve their confidence, accuracy and speed. Playing games to support number facts is a fun and effective way to support your child. A great way to practise addition/subtraction or multiplication is by introducing a second dice to your traditional board games. Each time a player rolls, they must roll both dice and either add, subtract or multiple the two numbers to determine how many moves they make. You may even want to introduce a third or fourth dice if your child is up for an additional challenge. Have fun! Book Fair and Expo Night – 3rd September The Book Fair and Expo Night are quickly approaching. Please save the date! We look forward to having our families join us from 5:00 pm to look at student work, shop at Book Fair, enjoy a tasty dinner and watch our concert items. Pupil Free Day - Friday, 4th September A reminder that it is a Pupil Free Day on Friday, 4th of September. Staff will be participating in Professional Development on this day. School Photos “Say cheese!” Our annual school photos are scheduled for Friday, 14th August. Please contact the school if you require information about photo ordering. Gardening Some of our students enjoyed planting lettuce and tomatoes with Mary-Anne last week. We look forward to seeing these grow and enjoying some tasty salads! Students were keen to also take some of the seedlings home – we hope that they have found a nice spot in your gardens too! School Camp COVID-19 created and continues to create uncertainty and challenges for usual school events and planning. The P&C and staff have begun discussions around what camp/activity we can organise for our students to create consistency and a feeling of ‘normal’ despite the unpredicted happenings in our 2020 year. Suggested options include a camp/sleep over event off school grounds, a school based sleep over and/or day trip. We will be seeking feedback from families to assist with planning something special for our students to participate in. Fraser Coast Regional Council Colouring Competition It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to participate in the Fraser Coast Regional Council colouring competition this year. It is also a pleasure to have had a visit from council representatives this week. Keep an eye out as some of our photos and video may feature in FCRC promotions in the near future. We’ll keep you updated.

2021 Enrolments We would be delighted to meet any new students and are accepting enrolments. Please let family or friends know that we are taking enrolments for 2021 and look forward to meeting them soon! B4L Lessons – International Friendship Day Did you know it was International Friendship Day last Thursday, 30th July? Students participated in activities and songs to celebrate friendship. One of the activities involved students brainstorming a list of values they thought were important in a good friend and to have a successful friendship. We put all our words into a program to see what we valued the most (see below). Larger text represents the words the most students included in their list. You can see that many of us think being friendly, caring and supportive of one another is important. Being nice, having fun and sharing jokes was also a common value shared by students. All students were set a challenge to do a deliberate action of kindness during the week. Ask your child what they achieved and how they demonstrated kindness and friendship to somebody!

Farmyard Visitors

BAA BAA! Thanks Garry for bringing one of your lambs to school last week. We all enjoyed meeting your cute little lamb and giving him a little cuddle.

Today Steve and Eva introduced us to one of Priscilla's piglets. Students enjoyed meeting this cute little piglet and hearing stories about how to care for animals. Thanks Steve!

P&C News

Our P&C have been busy preparing for some upcoming fundraising events, as we were very limited to what we could do early in the year due to Covid restrictions. Unfortunately the ongoing uncertainty has also led us to make the difficult decision to not hold our annual tombola this year, but we look forward to it being back bigger and better than ever this year. We do have some exciting events coming up, first of which will be our Pie Drive. This year we will be sourcing pies and sweets from Bell Hill Top Bakery, after some positive feedback regarding their yummy goodies we are keen to give them a try! Forms are attached to this newsletter, please collect as many orders as possible to support our P&C so we can continue to help out our wonderful school. Forms and money will be due back to school on Thursday 27th August. We will be also be sending out details in regards to our Fathers Day Raffle next week, which we will have a very exciting first prize up for grabs, so stay tuned! Our P&C members are continuing to work hard for our students, staff and families of our great school and we appreciate your ongoing support. Our next meeting will be held on Monday 17th August, as always everyone is welcome to attend.

4-6 NEWS

The Seniors have been enjoying listening to historical fiction this term. Our current text, A Waltz for Matilda by Jackie French, is set at the turn of the 20th century and explores issues including democracy and worker’s unions. The students have also made some text-to-text connections between the novel and the Waltzing Matilda ballad. Some of our students will be transforming the ballad into a multimodal story later in the term.

KEYS TO SUCCESS for HOME LEARNING

The Keys to Success provide us with strategies and ways of thinking

when times are tough.

Our Bauple students are familiar with this language and parents are

encouraged to continue using this during home learning.

In Science we have learnt how rainbows are made and have also viewed some images and videos of the Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis. For our Science assessment, some students will be creating a maze and directing a beam of light through the maze using mirrors. If you have a sturdy clean shoebox at home, please bring it in for our Science assessment task.

All students have been given Home Learning the past two Fridays. Home Learning aims to provide a little bit of revision of spelling and number facts, but also encourages students to interact in healthy ways with their siblings and parents/carers by way of conversation, games and life skill tasks. Many students said they enjoyed the task that involved cooking or preparing some food for the family. What a great life skill to encourage!

P-3 NEWS

How and why do things move? Students have begun their science investigations for Term 3. They had great fun making paper pinwheels. Through investigations they learnt that the shape and size of the pinwheel was important. The spinners were powered by wind which is a a push force. Can you think of something else which moves from a push force? Do you know what an alliteration is? Alliterations are when two or more words start with the same sound. Ask one of our junior students to tell you some of their alliterations. Here’s an alliteration to tell you about our English lessons - “Clever kids can create cool characters and love learning lots about language.” During Math time we have been practising telling the time and learning about months and seasons. Please help your child at home by involving them in activities to practise telling the time. For example, have them find and tell the time for the start of television programs, talk about the time it takes to do particular things such as cooking dinner, have them count down until bed time, etc. Stay safe and enjoy the remainder of your week.
